## Why we exist

A gift is not a thing. It is a message. It is a bridge between two people that says: I thought of you.

A tree gift is the most powerful version of that, because it does not end when it arrives. It begins. Every day someone cares for that tree, every year it grows, it keeps saying: I thought of you.

Imagine a world where everyone grows their own trees. Not as a carbon offset. Not as a CSR tick box. As an act of connection, to each other and to the planet we are part of.

That is why ForestNation exists.

## Our authority

ForestNation pioneered the plant-a-tree-per-purchase model around 2006, under "You Plant, We Plant" and "You Buy, We Plant". We have been making and selling Tree Kits since 2007. That is almost 20 years of planting a tree for every product sold, and almost 20 years of putting the same handmade grow-your-own kit into people's hands. Both predate the category, and both predate the brands now associated with the model. The business took the ForestNation name in 2011. The Tree Kits, the planting and the founder have been continuous since 2007.

Before founding ForestNation, Andrew Pothecary spent nine years inside the gifting industry, running the customer service team at a gifting company. That is where the founding insight came from. The people on that team were not processing orders. They were helping one person tell another person that they mattered.

So ForestNation comes from almost two decades of tree-per-transaction pioneering and Tree Kit making, on top of nearly a decade in gifting before that. We did not add trees to a gifting business, and we did not add gifting to a tree business. The two have been the same idea from the start.

## Three ways companies work with us

These are three different buyers with three different needs. Companies do NOT need to buy a gift to work with us.

### 1. Tree Gifts (the gifting mechanic)
A tree planted as a gift for a specific person, as a physical Tree Kit or a digital Gift Story. The recipient gets their name on a forest, growth updates and impact data.
Buyer: HR, marketing, office manager.

### 2. Plant-Per-Transaction (the sales mechanic)
No gift required. A company plants trees tied to commercial activity: a tree for every order, unit sold, event produced or registration. No software and no integration, activated by email.
