# זֶמֶרֶשֶׁת — Zemereshet

> A free, non-profit archive of early Hebrew song: lyrics, sheet music, historical
> recordings and documentation of the songs sung in the Land of Israel and in Jewish
> communities, mostly from the late 19th century to the 1960s. The site is in Hebrew.

Zemereshet holds over 9,000 songs, more than 20,000 recorded performances, and some
5,500 lyricists, composers and performers. A song page gathers the lyrics — usually
vocalised with niqqud — the lyricist and the composer, the origin of the melody,
historical notes, sheet music, and recordings, including field recordings made with
veteran singers. Songs are cross-referenced: other texts set to the same melody,
other melodies written for the same text, and other Hebrew versions of a shared
foreign source.

Stable page addresses: a song is /song.asp?id=<id>, an artist /artist.asp?id=<id>,
a record /record.asp?id=<id>, a book /book.asp?id=<id>, an article
/article.asp?id=<id>. The listing pages below take no parameters.
