# timezone.io

> timezone.io tells you the time anywhere and explains the time zones behind it: the current time, UTC offset and daylight saving schedule for every IANA time zone, country and major city, with a time zone converter, team boards for people spread across time zones, and a free JSON API.

Offsets and daylight saving rules come from the IANA tz database (release 2026e). The API computes offsets and daylight saving state for the moment of each request, so answers are right on the day the clocks change. Pages use the names people use (Eastern Time, CET, "Tokyo time"); IANA identifiers such as America/New_York have their own reference pages.

Pages are HTML. The docs and legal pages also answer requests sent with `Accept: text/markdown` with their markdown source, and each docs page has a plain-markdown copy at its address plus `.md`, linked below.
