# St. Roch Market

The market is located at the corner of St. Roch Avenue and St. Claude Avenue in the St. Roch / Marigny / Bywater neighborhood, approximately 10 minutes from the French Quarter. It was originally built in 1875 as Washington Market, renovated by the WPA in 1937–1938 (when its iconic cast iron columns were installed), devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and reopened as a modern food hall in 2015. The building is a City of New Orleans property operated under a 30-year lease by Market Staples LLC.
