- The weekly goal is one number: 60, 90, 120, 150, 210 or 300 activity minutes a week, 90 minutes of cardio by default. It repeats every week until the person changes it, and a change starts the following Monday.
- Activity minutes are the moving time of the person's Strava activities, any sport, added up from Monday 12:00 a.m. to Sunday 11:59 p.m. in their time zone. An activity counts when a device recorded it (a watch, bike computer or phone), with heart rate or a GPS track, and it started during the week. Activities entered by hand don't count.
- The price starts at $0 a month. A missed week adds $5 to the monthly price and a hit week takes $2.50 off; it never goes below $0 or above $25. Higher stakes multiply all three: ×2 ($10, $5, up to $50) or ×3 ($15, $7.50, up to $75). The new price shows the moment the week ends, Sunday at midnight.
- Workouts that reach Strava up to 48 hours late still count for the week they were done, and the price is corrected. The first week is a warm-up: the first counted week starts the Monday after the plan starts.
- The person's card is saved when they start their plan, and they're charged once a month for the month just ended, by the day: each day costs that day's price divided by the days in the month. At $0 nothing is charged. Canceling the game ends it at once and bills the days played; a new game can start 15 days later, at $0. 30% of what they pay, after VAT and card fees, goes to carbon removal through Stripe Climate, and the rest runs steps.org.
- Up to three emails a week while a plan runs: Monday's says how last week ended, the price now and the streak; one the moment the weekly goal is hit; and, if it isn't by Saturday, Saturday's says the minutes so far and what is left. Each can be turned off in Settings.
- Only the person sees their week, their activities and their price: steps.org has no public pages. It keeps Strava activities for 7 days at most, and each week's total, result and price as the billing record. Nothing read from Strava goes to analytics or to any AI.
- steps.org is for adults. It isn't for anyone with an eating disorder or compulsive exercise, now or in the past, and anyone with a heart condition, pregnant, injured or told to limit exercise should ask a doctor before picking a goal. Nothing on steps.org is medical advice.
- An account closes after 90 days with no activity on Strava, with an email 7 days before. steps.org is run by Pipedesk OÜ in Estonia and built by notacompany.
