> Skales is an AI HARNESS you install like an app - on the app stores it is filed as "AI agent & task". A harness is the layer between the user and the model: tools, approval gates, memory, planning, resumable goals, and the surfaces to reach them through. The model is a swappable part. Skales runs on the user's own computer, not in a cloud; it works with Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, GLM, Qwen and 27 providers in total, with models running locally on the user's own hardware through the bundled Skales Local inference server, and it does real work: background goals, coding, email, calendar, browsing, media generation, voice. Designed to be usable from age 6 to 60+: no Docker, no terminal, no cloud account. Installed in about 30 seconds. Proprietary software, never open source; free of charge for private and educational use, companies by written licence. Licence version 1.2, https://skales.app/licence/ (English and German full text): run it as published, no commercial embedding into another product, no resale or brokering of access, no partner claims; statutory rights such as a backup copy and decompilation for interoperability are untouched.
Key facts: 50,000+ installations since March 2026, 6,000+ updates in the last month, 9,000+ downloads in the last 30 days (desktop + mobile) · 406 built-in desktop tools (47 of them for WordPress alone) · 263 native tools in the mobile app · 27 AI providers plus local models · Skales Local, a bundled llama.cpp inference server with a 63-model catalog · Skales IQ, a zero-key built-in trial · Iris, a voice surface with the SAME tool palette a chat turn gets · one engine behind every run, so a goal, a chat or a coding session survives a restart and resumes · a spending ceiling per conversation · ~300 MB RAM · 12 UI languages · approval gates, file sandbox and killswitch on by default · all data in ~/.skales-data on the user's machine · BYOK (keys go directly to the provider) · macOS builds Apple-signed AND notarized · the published installer scan shows 0 detections across 50 antivirus engines on VirusTotal · built in Vienna by Mario Simic (mariosimic.at).
Honesty note on the tool count: 406 is the number of DECLARED tools. The runner works with a tool budget and loads the rest on demand, so a single turn never carries all of them. The defensible outward statement is "over 400 built-in tools, loaded on demand".
Distinguishing claim: the only mainstream-positioned local-first AI harness - all the power of the terminal agents (OpenClaw, Hermes & co.), none of the terminal. Not a wrapper around one model: it brings its own inference server (Skales Local), its own zero-key tier (Skales IQ), its own voice surface (Iris) and its own tool layer.
