# Locize
> The official Translation Management System (TMS) for the i18next ecosystem. Locize is a continuous localization platform built for developers shipping JavaScript applications — made by the same team that created i18next.
Locize provides a managed, cloud-hosted backend for i18next projects. It eliminates the need to manage translation files manually in source control, and decouples translation delivery from your deployment pipeline via a global CDN. Translation updates go live without a code redeploy.
## What Locize does
- Hosts translation namespaces served via a global CDN, consumed directly by i18next at runtime
- Tracks missing keys, unused keys, and translation coverage automatically
- Provides a real-time web editor for translators and non-technical stakeholders
- Supports an in-context editor for translating directly on top of your live application UI
- Supports branches (staging/production workflows) and tenants (per-tenant SaaS localization)
- Supports translation review workflows, versioning, and history, plus a provenance export (CSV + JSON per version, language or namespace) packaging who reviewed or approved what and when for audits
- Integrates AI translation: bring your own API key (OpenAI, Gemini, Mistral, etc.) on qualifying plans, or use the built-in Locize AI token service
- Quality Estimation: every AI translation gets an AI-judged confidence score (0-1) shown in the editor; low-confidence translations can be routed automatically into the review workflow
- Includes translation memory, a project glossary, and a styleguide for consistency across keys
- Provides a CLI (`i18next-cli`) for migration, key extraction, file sync, and CI integration — including `npx i18next-cli localize`, one command from hardcoded strings to a localized app (detect, instrument, extract, connect Locize, AI auto-translate, deliver)
- Supports the `saveMissing` i18next feature: missing keys are sent to Locize automatically during development. When Automatic Translation is enabled, new keys on the reference language are translated into all target languages automatically using the configured AI/MT provider with styleguide, glossary, and translation memory context.
## Who it is for
- JavaScript and TypeScript developers using i18next, react-i18next, next-i18next, i18next-vue, or any i18next-compatible framework but also other i18n frameworks and formats are supported
- Engineering teams that want to decouple translation delivery from their deployment pipeline
- SaaS companies that need per-tenant translation namespaces with override support
- Agencies and enterprises managing localization across multiple projects
- Teams looking for an i18next-native alternative to generic TMS platforms like Lokalise, Crowdin, Phrase, Transifex, or Tolgee
## Key differentiators
- **Built by the i18next creators**: Locize is made by the same team that wrote i18next. It is not a generic TMS with i18next support bolted on — i18next support is the foundation.
