# Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC)
> The IDC is a national development finance institution, established in 1940 through an Act of Parliament and fully owned by the South African Government. Its mandate is to contribute to balanced, sustainable economic growth in Africa by promoting entrepreneurship and building competitive industries, funding job-rich industrialisation, and supporting an inclusive economy — including black-owned enterprises, black industrialists, women- and youth-owned businesses. For the financial year ended 31 March 2026, the IDC reported R17 billion in development funding disbursements and mobilised a further R28 billion from co-funders and investment partners. This funding is expected to create 71,228 jobs. On-balance sheet transformation funding disbursements were R3.5 billion, and SME disbursements reached R1.3 billion. It funds projects across 10 industry sectors, typically from R1 million up to R1 billion per transaction.
