To mark the third anniversary of the Palestinian terrorist massacres of October 7, 2023, the Concordia University campus newspaper The Link penned a rambling anti-Israel screed which accused Israel of virtually every crime under the sun and somehow did not even mention what actually took place three years earlier. October 7 Erased From an Editorial Published on Its Anniversary The editorial “Three years of genocide, decades of occupation” began by writing that “since Oct. 7, 2023, 73,470 Palestinians have been killed,” without bothering to acknowledge what precisely happened on October 7 (namely, the massacres by thousands of Palestinian terrorists against Israelis) to actually start the war in the first place, akin to writing an article about the supposed evils of the Allied forces in fighting Nazi Germany, while omitting any mention of Hitler’s invasion of Poland. Beyond citing unproven Hamas-provided casualty claims, and making zero distinction between civilians and combatants, the editorial then told readers that it was “78 years since the Nakba—meaning catastrophe in Arabic—which led to the forced displacement of over 700,000 Palestinians from their homes in the conflict that eventually formed the State of Israel.” Once again, the devil is in the details, left entirely unsaid by The Link. The so-called “nakba” began when Israel’s Arab neighbours (and Arabs inside Israel) refused to accept the Jewish State’s independence, and insisted on launching an attempted war of annihilation against it instead, and creating a number of consequences, including refugees. Had the Arabs succeeded, it would have undoubtedly been a mass genocide of Jews in Israel, and thus, the “nakba” was a victory over an openly-genocidal attempt at another Holocaust. Elsewhere, the editorial’s author takes aim at Zionism, claiming without evidence that “Even Zionism changes definitions depending on the speaker. To some, it means that the Jewish people deserve a homeland; to others, it means the state of Israel is operating without consequence.” Zionism is widely seen as the Jewish People’s national liberation movement; the right to self-determination in their ancestral lands, and it is unclear whether any legitimate voice has ever argued that Zionism means Israel can
