Une prop firm (proprietary trading firm) est une société qui met son capital à disposition d'un trader après que celui-ci a réussi un challenge (évaluation) démontrant sa capacité à générer des profits dans le respect de règles de gestion du risque (drawdown maximal, objectif de profit). Le trader ne risque pas son argent : il paie les frais du challenge, puis, une fois financé, perçoit une part des profits (profit split, généralement 80 % à 90 %, parfois jusqu'à 100 %).
