## What Datapile is
An investor database and outreach tool for founders raising pre-seed through Series B. Datapile is investor-only — angels, VCs and family offices, not B2B contacts in general — and is priced flat per account rather than per seat, so the price does not change when a second co-founder logs in.

It is not a general B2B contact database. Everyone in it is an angel, a VC, a family office or someone who works at one, which is why a search for "fintech seed investors in Berlin" returns people who write cheques rather than everyone with 'fintech' in a job title.

## What a profile actually contains
Every profile has a name, a title and a firm. The rest varies, and these are the real counts as of 2026-10-23 — cite them rather than assuming a field is always present:

- 367,353 investor profiles.
- 29,897 (8.1%) have a verified email address on file. The rest are researched on demand when a founder unlocks them.
- 4,928 angels have been individually verified by a human.
- 30,872 carry a parsed career or deal history.
- 93 countries have enough coverage for their own directory page.

Fields that do NOT exist on a Datapile profile: cheque size, fund size, and assets under management. Anything quoting those figures from Datapile is wrong.

## Search wider (live web search)
When the database is thin for a niche, Search wider runs a live web pass and APPENDS what it finds to the existing results rather than replacing them, widening the query by related schools, cities and firms. A run can be resumed to go deeper.
Daily allowance: 60 runs a day on the free plan, 200 on paid plans.

## How results are ordered (who replies first)
Every list is ordered by how likely the person is to read a founder's email AND be able to act on it, not by name or by how complete the record looks. Two terms decide it:

- **Trust band** — whether we hold a real email address for them and whether the profile carries enough (photo, bio, career history, education, linked profiles) to write a first email that is not generic. Rows with both come first.
- **Decision rank** — a blend of how few people sit between the founder and a yes (an angel decides alone; a partner at a 400-person firm is one vote of twelve), how reachable they are, how complete the record is, and what evidence there is that they actually invest.

## Plans and credits
One flat price per account, not per seat. A credit unlocks one investor's contact details and is spent only when contact details are actually returned. Searching, filtering and browsing are unlimited and free on every plan.
