## A Coach for Every Student: Whole School, Whole Child

Every student needs a coach in their corner. City Year AmeriCorps members provide additional support as student success coaches—trusted tutors and mentors—in under-resourced schools.

The Whole School, Whole Child model is grounded in research that shows students best learn and develop when they form positive relationships with caring adults, feel a sense of belonging in school, and receive holistic support—both academic and interpersonal.

Chronic absenteeism remains 50% higher than pre-pandemic levels, with an estimated 11 million students missing at least 10% of the school year. Achievement rates in reading and math have also declined significantly.
