- Authentication: OAuth 2.1 sign-in with a free CarAPIs account. Clients that speak MCP auth (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code) discover it from the 401 and open the sign-in themselves.
- Scripts: send a CarAPIs API key in the `X-MCP-Access-Key` header (or as a Bearer token); keys are at https://my.carapis.com/private/api-keys.
- Tools: `catalog_public_facets`, `catalog_public_search`, `catalog_public_get`, `catalog_public_market_summary`
- Limits per key: 20/minute, 25 rows per call, 1000 rows of depth
Call `catalog_public_facets` first — it returns the brand, model, source and body-type values the other tools accept, so a filter matches something instead of returning an empty list you read as "none exist".
Every price is USD, already converted. The source listing's URL and id are not on this surface; a subscription carries them.
