# Backgrounds.Gallery
> Catalogue of every Steam profile background: 64,288 static backgrounds and 1,654 animated ones from 14,610 games, ranked by community votes, with prices, colour and style filters and visually similar backgrounds.
How the data is made:
- Ranking: visitors pick the better of two random backgrounds on https://backgrounds.gallery/battle. A background's score is its win rate (votes / battles shown), pulled towards the site average until it has played enough battles, so a new background with one lucky win does not top the list.
- Prices: static backgrounds are bought on the Steam Community Market (price in USD, refreshed regularly) or in the Steam Points Shop (cost in points); animated backgrounds are sold only in the Points Shop, mostly for 2,000 points, and cannot be traded.
- Colours are measured from the pixels of each picture; styles (anime, pixel art, space, ...) are recognised from the picture by an image model (PE-Core), not from the game name. "Similar backgrounds" are nearest neighbours in that model.
- To use a background: buy it, then on your Steam profile choose Edit Profile → Profile Background.
- Every page exists in 13 languages: add a prefix such as /ru, /de, /ja, /zh-cn, /ar to any path below.
