Akismet is a spam detection service from Automattic. It checks comments, contact form submissions and other user-generated content against a global spam database and returns whether each one is spam. It's available as an official WordPress plugin and Drupal module, through third-party integrations for many other platforms, and as an HTTP API that any application can call with an Akismet API key.
