# UltraGuest > UltraGuest is a free guestbook hosting service that has run since 2003. A guestbook is a page where visitors leave short public text messages for the owner of a website; UltraGuest hosts that page, and the owner links to it or shows it inside their own page. There is no paid plan and no advertising. ## Key facts - Free: no fees, no paid plan and no feature held back for money. Free since 2003. No advertising, no tracking cookies and no sale of data. - A guestbook is a page hosted at ultraguest.com. The owner links to it, or shows it inside their own page with an iframe embed: one line of HTML, no script to install. It works on any website, blog or static host, Neocities included. - Messages are text only: up to 1,500 characters, with smilies and simple formatting. Links and HTML are not allowed in a message, and visitors cannot upload images or files. Visitors need no account; they pass a human-verification check (Cloudflare Turnstile). - Every message is checked before it appears, by automatic content rules and AI moderation. Owners can also approve new messages first, use a word filter and block addresses. - Owners can edit, hide, delete (a trash keeps deleted messages for 30 days) and reply to messages, keep private messages, and get e-mail notifications and an RSS feed. Only the owner replies; visitors cannot reply to each other. - It is a guestbook, not a comment system: one page of messages for the whole site, not a discussion under every post or page. - A visitor can remove their own message with a private link shown once, right after signing. - Owners see the country a message was written from, never the visitor's IP address. UltraGuest keeps the address only to prevent abuse and to meet legal duties, and deletes it 12 months after the message was posted (longer only while it is evidence). - Owners can export everything (JSON, CSV or one web page), import messages from SmartGB, Atabook or a CSV file, and delete their guestbook at any time. - Colours, fonts, a header text and full custom CSS; guestbook pages in 24 languages; up to ten guestbooks per account. Owners must be 16 or older. - An independent, privately run project, operated from the United States.
