- What this site is: an independent hands-on review site for adult AI companion apps. Not a directory, not a marketplace, not affiliated with any app reviewed.
- Who tests: a named lead tester (Crane Zhou, https://thecompanionlab.com/about/) who registers, pays on his own card and sends the messages. A second reviewer re-checks claims against the original screenshots and captures, except on the EroLove review, where that check was not completed and the byline says so.
- Apps tested: ten — Secrets, Nomi, Ourdream, Kindroid, Candy AI, SpicyChat, GirlfriendGPT, DreamGF, Xotic, EroLove.
- Apps paid for: eight of ten. Nomi was tested on a free account only. EroLove gave us Premium for a month after we asked, so we did not pay and record no card descriptor for it.
- Test method: the same six chat messages to every app (a landlord complaint, two facts about the tester — a cat named Biscuit, a peanut allergy — a joke request, advice on quitting a job for poker, a memory quiz, a selfie request), plus a full walkthrough of each character creator and a read of every plan page. EroLove has no character creator, so it was scored on three areas, not four, and is placed last for that reason alone.

Free plan: 46 messages with no cap, 4K memory ('Context Limit Reached' after ~10 messages), default model only, no chat pictures, free character creation incl. avatar. True Supporter $19.95/month (plans: Get a Taste $5.95, I'm All In $29.95): no coins or counters, unlimited in-chat pictures included; nude pictures once "NSFW Mode" is switched on in image settings (off by default); no video. Memory quiz passed; joke had no punchline. Statement "NDAI.CC 514-2860020 DE US". Cancel: 2 screens, no offer.

On a free account each message cost 1 Dreamcoin and a scene picture 5 (55 coins to start); the scene picture for a plain selfie request came back partly nude. Premium $9.99/month billed $119.88 a year, $19.99 month to month (we paid $19.99 on 19 Oct 2026; bank card notice read "DREAMSTUDIOS.CO Limassol CY").
5. [Kindroid review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/kindroid-ai/): 6.8/10, joint best writing with Secrets. Free "premium model preview" counter (14 to 8 over six messages) and a subscribe window mid-chat; selfies only when paid (our paid selfie matched the story but showed only in the Gallery on the web). $13.99/month on the web vs $15.99 in the iPhone app.
6. [Xotic review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/xotic-ai/): 5.5/10. Free plan: 5 messages once, 200 XOT, one character (50 XOT per picture). Ultimate $24.99/month with 1,200 XOT ($149.99/year); Elite $74.99/month or $449.99/year ($37.50/month billed yearly). Best-written character of the four (Molly); app pushed an unrequested 50-XOT "Exclusive Content" picture after two messages; free selfie didn't match the scene; Snap picture 50 XOT; 5 s 720p video 250 XOT (1080p 450) with explicit presets. Statement "Xotic.ai Tallinn EE". Cancel: reason + "500 on us" offer, no confirmation until reload.
7. [GirlfriendGPT review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/girlfriendgpt/): 5.5/10. Free plan says '20 messages', 10 usable; selfie costs 10 of 30 starter coins and stays blurred. Deluxe $35/month, Elite $50/month. Operated by NextDay AI (same as SpicyChat). Tested at gptgirlfriend.online. Premium $15/month, 5,000 messages; funniest replies; memory upsell modal blocked the chat box after message 3; selfie charged coins without a prompt and didn't match the scene; images of private characters need Deluxe or Elite. Statement "NDAI.CHAT 514-2860020 DE US". Cancel: required reason.
8. [Candy review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/candy-ai/): 4.8/10. Nice creator; on our free account the chat locked after the fifth message behind an unrequested "private video", and encouraged quitting a job for poker. $3.99/month needs a 12-month plan. We paid $9.99 for a first month (20 Oct 2026): bank notice read "EverAI candy.ai MT" (app name visible). Premium unlocks chat; pictures 2 tokens, 15 s video 30 tokens, characters can auto-send paid media (on by default).
9. [DreamGF review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/dreamgf-ai/): 3.5/10. Free plan: 10 messages, locked photos, character generation Premium-only. Builder's premium generator offers 'Teen (18+)' age and 'Child's room' setting. Premium $12.99 first month, rebill $25.98/month; 150 tokens/month, unlimited messages; short emoji replies; selfie 2 tokens, didn't match the scene; nude photo 2 tokens, 5 s clip 20 tokens. Statement "Dream AI dreamgf.ai RO". Cancel: 5 screens incl. a token bonus that blocks cancelling for 30 days if accepted.
10. [EroLove review](https://thecompanionlab.com/reviews/erolove-ai/): 6.7/10 but placed last, because it is the one app we could score in only three of four areas — it has no character creator at all, so ranking it on one would be inventing a result. Read its line, not its position. Premium was given to us by EroLove for a month (23 Oct 2026), so we did not pay and record no card descriptor for it. The best memory screen in this set: what she keeps is shown as sentences you can edit, pin, delete or export as HTML, and a rewritten fact appeared in her next reply. No NSFW switch at all — explicit text arrived in character on request, with no upsell mid-scene. Photo generation: 3 of 5 succeeded in 16-23 s at 768x1024 for 10 sparks, 2 returned status "blocked" with no explanation and no charge. Voice: 1 spark for a 170-character reply, back in 1.6 s. Defects we found: memories were written in Estonian and French and once not at all during an all-English session; 30 pages including the privacy policy promise self-photo upload while the endpoint returns 404; "unlimited messages" is really 800 a day. Premium $12.99/month or $77.99/year, crypto only, free plan 5 messages/day.

Ranked by our four scores: Secrets 8.3 (best overall), Nomi 7.8 (best free plan), SpicyChat 7.5 (best no-coin-meter paid plan), Ourdream 7.0 (best character creator), Kindroid 6.8 (best writer, tied with Secrets on chat), EroLove 6.7 (best memory; placed last because we could score it in only three of four areas, since it has no character creator by design), Xotic 5.5, GirlfriendGPT 5.5, Candy 4.8, DreamGF 3.5. An app we could score in fewer than four areas is always last regardless of its average. Each entry carries the monthly price, the free allowance and the merchant string from our own card notice; Nomi, Kindroid and EroLove say "not recorded by us yet" where we have no notice, and in EroLove's case that is because its Premium was given to us rather than paid for. Second-month charges are listed separately: DreamGF $12.99 then $25.98/month, Candy $9.99 then $13.99/month.

- [About The Companion Lab: how we test, and who we are](https://thecompanionlab.com/about/): two roles — a lead tester who registers, subscribes on our own card, sends the same six messages and reads the card notice, and a second reviewer who re-checks claims against the original screenshots, video metadata and front-end code before publication (the EroLove review is the one exception: that check was not completed, and its byline says so). Eight of the ten apps were paid for (Kindroid Standard, Secrets Premium, Ourdream Premium, Candy Premium, SpicyChat True Supporter, GirlfriendGPT Premium, DreamGF Premium, Xotic Ultimate); Nomi was tested on a free account. Seven merchant descriptors recorded, nine of the ten creators walked and rebuilt as no-signup replicas (EroLove has no creator by design), explicit images never published, and affiliate links never decide a score. Public profiles we can be checked against: GitHub (@fancydirty), DEV Community, Hashnode, Hacker News and a public gist of the raw data.
