# Stem Cell Seoul > An educational reference on regenerative medicine in Korea: what stem-cell, exosome, PRP and polynucleotide treatments actually contain, what the published evidence does and does not support, and how Korean law regulates them. - No exosome product holds United States FDA approval for any indication, and no stem-cell product is FDA approved for a cosmetic indication. - Ryoncil (remestemcel-L-rknd) is an FDA-approved mesenchymal stromal cell therapy for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease in pediatric patients 2 months of age and older. That disease-specific approval does not cover cosmetic use or establish authorisation to provide it in Korea. - A 2023 systematic review included 27 controlled alopecia trials with 1,117 participants: 18 androgenetic-alopecia trials with 713 participants and nine alopecia-areata trials with 404 participants. For androgenetic alopecia it favoured PRP for hair density with low-certainty evidence, and adverse-event reporting was incomplete. - Exosome-containing preparations have small controlled studies and systematic reviews; variable formulations and combined procedures limit what they show. - A 2025 systematic review of polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine found nine studies covering 219 patients, of low to moderate quality, with limited consensus on optimal use. - Exosomes are vesicles released by cells, roughly 30 to 150 nanometres across. They are not cells and do not divide or engraft as living cells. Isolation methods differ between suppliers, which is why the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles publishes and revises minimum reporting standards, most recently MISEV2023. - PRP is the patient's own blood, centrifuged so platelets concentrate in a small plasma volume. Platelets are anucleate cell fragments, and PRP contains no stem cells. - Korea's Act on the Safety of and Support for Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biological Products is in force from 8 October 2026 (Act No. 21525, amended 7 April 2026). Interventions within its advanced regenerative medicine pathway require institutional designation and plan review; specified minimally manipulated cell or tissue procedures are excluded from that definition, and product authorisation is a separate question. - Documented complications of unproven cell-based interventions offered outside research frameworks include infection, immune rejection and tumour formation. ## Evidence guide pages - [Stem Cell Seoul: evidence on regenerative medicine](https://stemcell-seoul.com/): Evidence on stem cells, exosomes, PRP and polynucleotides in Korea, including product differences, clinical studies and regulation. - [Editorial policy, medical review and sources](https://stemcell-seoul.com/about-and-editorial-policy/): Medical review, sources and corrections for Stem Cell Seoul. - [Stem Cell Clinical Trial Registration vs Approval](https://stemcell-seoul.com/clinical-trial-registration-vs-approval/): How to check a stem cell clinical trial claim: what an NCT registration shows and why it does not prove approval, effectiveness, Korean authorisation or availability at a particular clinic. - [Evidence levels, and how to read them](https://stemcell-seoul.com/evidence-levels/): Why "studies show" is not one claim.
