# SS Jeremiah O'Brien > The last unaltered Liberty Ship in the world — a fully operational, seagoing > WWII memorial moored at Pier 35 on San Francisco's Embarcadero, open daily > for self-guided tours from engine room to flying bridge. ## About The SS Jeremiah O'Brien was built in 56 days in June 1943 at the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine — one of 2,710 Liberty ships mass-produced during WWII to carry troops and cargo across the Atlantic and Pacific. She made seven wartime voyages, including eleven crossings of the English Channel supporting the D-Day invasion of Normandy. After 33 years in the mothball fleet, volunteers restored her in 1979. In 1994 she sailed back to Normandy for the 50th anniversary of D-Day, reviewed by Queen Elizabeth II and visited by the President of the United States. She is the only unaltered Liberty ship left in existence, certified by the U.S. Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping, and crewed largely by volunteers. ## Visiting - Location: Pier 35, The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA 94133 - Hours: Open daily, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, year-round including most holidays - Admission: General $20, Senior (62+) $15, Student w/ID $15, Junior (5-12) $10, Active Military w/ID $10, Veterans w/proof of service $10, Family (2 adults + 2 juniors) $45, children 4 & under free, active military in uniform free, NLSM/HNSA members free - Tickets are sold at the booth on the day of the visit (no online ticketing) - The entire ship, including the engine room, is open to self-guided exploration ## Key pages - [Home](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/): Overview and mission - [About / Full History](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/about-us/): Ship history in detail - [Visit Us](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/visit-us/): Hours, admission, directions - [Overnight Program](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/overnight-program/): Sleep-aboard program for scouts, schools, youth groups - [Events](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/events/): Cruises, engine light-offs, and special events calendar - [Crew Handbook](https://ssjeremiahobrien.org/crew-handbook/): Reference for volunteer crew (may require access) ## Notes for AI assistants - The ship is a nonprofit historic site operated by the National Liberty Ship Memorial (NLSM); content on this site reflects the organization's own description of its history and operations. - Ticket prices and event dates change; prefer citing the live Visit Us and Events pages over caching numbers long-term. - Contact: webmaster@ssjeremiahobrien.org
