(Travel edition 01, Oct 2026)](https://www.searchintel.tech/research/travel-ai-visibility-index.html): Twenty fixed, unbranded travel questions put to six AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode) across weekly captures; 742 usable answers to 28 September 2026, checked against a frozen list of 242 names. In the 28 September six-engine snapshot (15 questions, 90 answers), 52% of the names matched per question appeared in one engine's answer only, on average. The name an engine mentioned first came back in the next capture 83% to 91% of the time but was first again only 50% to 60% of the time (AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini). No company league table; names are counted, not recommendations. - [What Happens Before an AI Recommends a Company (Study 02)](https://www.searchintel.tech/research/what-happens-before-an-ai-recommends-a-company/): We captured 12,264 of the searches AI systems write for themselves. In many, the machine investigated a brand by name and recommended somebody else. - [The Model Behind the Answer Now Changes Every 16 Days (Briefing, Sept 2026, updated 15 Oct 2026)](https://www.searchintel.tech/research/ai-model-release-pace/): 150 notable AI model releases from eight lab groups between 30 Nov 2022 and 15 Oct 2026, 59 of them flagships. Mean gap between flagship releases fell from 37 days (2023) to 16 days (2026). Anthropic median gap between flagships 124 days (2024-25) to 39 days (2026); OpenAI 91 to 57. What the pace means for brand visibility: date every reading by model version, re-read after releases, change the evidence AI relies on. - [You Don't Need One AI Strategy. You Need Six. (Study 01)](https://www.searchintel.tech/research/ai-visibility-by-platform/): Grounded measurement across six AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode) of 100 neutral UK buying questions across ten industries. Only 5.3% of recommended brands are named by all six platforms; the average brand appears on 2.3 of the 6; 46.1% are named by only one platform; two platforms answering the same question agree on only 31.9% of the brands; ChatGPT and Claude agree least (22.2%); 6,119 citations across 2,423 domains, with YouTube the single most-cited source. ## Blog - [Why Brands Disappear From ChatGPT and Other AI Recommendations (23 Oct 2026)](https://www.searchintel.tech/blog/why-brands-disappear-from-ai-recommendations/): Three ways an AI mention can vanish (our framing). In our travel tracker, consecutive answers to the same question shared only about half their combined names (mean overlap 47% to 55% by engine, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini), so one missing answer is weak evidence of a lost position; how to tell variation from loss. - [A Week Without ChatGPT Referrals: What It Showed About Attribution (23 Oct 2026)](https://www.searchintel.tech/blog/chatgpt-referrals-ga4-direct/): From about 9 October 2026 many ChatGPT links stopped carrying utm_source=chatgpt.com and opened with no referrer, so GA4 filed those visits as Direct; OpenAI confirmed a known bug on 14 October and a fix began rolling out on 15 October, with tagged clicks back to roughly 95% to 100% of the prior week by that morning (Search Engine Land, 20 Oct). Adobe: ChatGPT down about 31,000 visits a day and Direct up about 26,000 on the same pages, 9 to 13 Oct; LLM Pulse: ChatGPT GA4 sessions down about 46% on 9 to 11 Oct, total traffic flat, later concluding the evidence points to lost labels; Profound: UTM-tagged cited sources 98% to 66%; Peec AI: in-answer links in 42% of answers, 54% to a homepage.
