I'm really happy about that because I love my name as is.   Why is education important to you: Education is one of life’s fundamentals, more so than the cities we live in, the careers we aspire to, and the laws we’re governed by—none of which would be possible without education. Education is not limited to the young, the old, or anyone along the spectrum, but instead, it is a life long process where we each have a turn to be the student, the teacher, or both simultaneously. With education being so crucial to a functioning society, innovation, and human preservation, access to the very best forms of education should be readily available to all that seek it. The opportunity to educate oneself, and to provide access to education for those that come after us, is one of the greatest investments one can make on behalf of the generations to come. - [Meet Young Leaders Board Member Lindsay Slaven](https://scholarshipfund.org/meet-young-leaders-board-member-lindsay-slaven/): Hometown:  New York, NY Alma Mater: Cornell University Industry: Capital Markets Hobbies: Running, Travel, Cooking, Reading Fun Fact: Before starting college I had moved 11 times – across 4 continents and 6 countries.   How did you get involved with Children’s Scholarship Fund and the Young Leaders Board? I was introduced to the Children’s Scholarship Fund through friends of mine from New York. They had invited me to attend one of the Young Leaders’ sponsored events where I learned more about the charity and the amazing work that the members were doing to help students from low income families gain access to better education. After attending the event, I contacted the board and asked how I could get involved.   What do you hope to learn or gain from being a YL Member? I hope to become a more active member in my community through my involvement on the board. I wholeheartedly believe that education is at the core of building a strong, healthy community and shaping the success and happiness of adolescents. When prioritized, education opens doors to opportunities that allow students to reach their maximum potential; I want to do my part in making that achievement possible.   Why is education important to you? I attribute everything that I have been able to accomplish to my family’s emphasis on education. My education gave me the confidence and awareness to make informed, good decisions; it introduced me to a community of driven and open minded people that have inspired and challenged me; and has ultimately put me in a place where I feel like I am contributing positively to my community. Education has the ability to affect positive change and I want to foster that. - [CSF Alumni Board](https://scholarshipfund.org/new-york/csf-alumni-board/): CSF Alumni Board members act as ambassadors for CSF, spreading awareness about CSF’s mission, and sharing their stories of challenges, achievements, and success with the CSF Alumni Network, CSF supporters, and the general public. Long distance running seriously never crossed my mind. I played on the women’s ice hockey team at Dartmouth, so our cardio consisted of on-ice sprints (“Herbies”), skating drills, and our dreaded fall run test of fifteen 150-yard shuttles in 50-yard increments, each under 30 seconds (read: not fun). While my lifetime of hockey honed my fast-twitch muscle fibers, my slow-twitch muscles that would enable long-endurance feats received absolutely no love. When I graduated from college and effectively became a non-athlete, I realized that in order to counterbalance my insatiable love of Oreos and Ben & Jerry’s, I needed to not hate running. As soon as I signed up for the NYC Half with CSF, I was finally able to find the motivation to push myself and train for longer distances. And at some point during the race, the ex-athlete adrenaline kicked in, and I was able to beat my goal time of 1:40:00 and average 7:33 for the 13.1! - [Meet Young Leaders Board Member Jackie Palma](https://scholarshipfund.org/meet-young-leaders-board-member-jackie-palma/): How did you get involved with Children’s Scholarship Fund and the Young Leaders Board?  - [MEET CSF YOUNG LEADERS BOARD MEMBER JASON WEBER](https://scholarshipfund.org/meet-csf-young-leaders-board-member-jason-weber/): Hometown: Oak Park, California Alma Mater: BS, Pepperdine University  Industry: Advertising  Hobbies: Cars, traveling, skiing, food, dogs, and working out - [MEET CSF YOUNG LEADERS BOARD MEMBER Don Castle](https://scholarshipfund.org/meet-csf-young-leaders-board-member-don-castle/): Don Castle joined the Young Leaders Board five years ago and is a former co-chair and has supported the Young Leaders Board since the beginning!
