# ReadCalc > Free, terminal-styled reading and writing tools that run entirely in the browser. Word count, reading time, speaking time, readability and pacing analysis — no account, no upload, no server-side processing. Text never leaves the user's device. ReadCalc is built and maintained by Dean Warwick, a search marketer based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Every tool is a single static HTML page with no external dependencies and no backend. All analysis happens client-side in JavaScript; text is stored only in the visitor's own `localStorage` and is never transmitted. Default assumptions used across the tools: reading speed 225 WPM, speaking speed 140 WPM, readability via Flesch-Kincaid grade level. ## Tools - [All Tools](https://readcalc.com/tools/): Hub page listing all eleven tools, grouped by job — writing, speaking, and analysis. - [Reading Time Calculator](https://readcalc.com/): Word count, character count, reading time, speaking time, grade level and social-platform character limits for any pasted text. - [Content Clock](https://readcalc.com/content-clock/): Set a reading-time budget and watch it count down live while writing. - [Content Comparison](https://readcalc.com/content-comparison/): Compares two drafts side by side on word count, reading time, readability and grade level, with an inline diff. - [Mind Map Maker](https://readcalc.com/mindmap/): Browser-based mind mapping. Double-click to add nodes, drag to rearrange, export to PNG or a text outline. - [Script Timer](https://readcalc.com/script-timer/): Calculates a script's spoken runtime, then inserts timestamp markers into the script text itself at a configurable interval. Unlike other script timers, which return only a duration, this one writes the timing into the script so it can be rehearsed against. Output is editable and can be copied as plain or rich text, exported as .txt, or printed as a double-spaced rehearsal script or PDF. Accepts .txt, .md, .csv and .json uploads. Does not perform screenplay formatting — it preserves the layout you paste in rather than creating one. Previously published at /script-formatter/. - [Teleprompter](https://readcalc.com/teleprompter/): Auto-scrolling teleprompter with adjustable WPM, full-screen, mirror mode and a focus band. Holds a screen wake lock so a phone does not dim mid-script. - [Filler Word & Cliché Finder](https://readcalc.com/filler-finder/): Highlights filler phrases, clichés and passive-voice constructions inline, with one-click replacements. 147 filler phrases and 278 clichés. - [Speaking Rate Test](https://readcalc.com/speech-rate-test/): Live mic test with two modes — Read Aloud (known passage, works on any browser) and Free Speech (live transcription via SpeechRecognition on Chrome/Edge) — with waveform, timer and WPM vs TED/radio/conversation benchmarks. Audio never leaves the browser. - [Sentence Pacing Analyser](https://readcalc.com/sentence-pacing/): Renders each sentence as a bar to expose rhythm, monotonous stretches and runaway sentences. - [Reading Speed & Comprehension Test](https://readcalc.com/reading-test/): Timed reading test with four multiple-choice comprehension questions, returning words-per-minute against global averages. Sixteen passages across four difficulty levels, chosen by the reader or at random. - [Share Card Generator](https://readcalc.com/share-card/): Turns reading stats into a shareable card image, with five themes and iframe, WordPress and static HTML embed codes. ## Reading speed research -
