How about the lifetime of the developers or the business? And how do they handle support over all those years? We rarely hear a clear and up-front answer on this. Almost everyone selling "lifetime" access has small print that greatly limits what you actually get. Reason #2. Lifetime licenses are a terrible business model The “lifetime” business model is broken. If you buy a lifetime license, you immediately become a burden on the business that sells you the license. You are not a customer. You are only an expense. This business model only works if the majority of their customers quickly abandon their product. Many developers realize this only after they sell "lifetime" licenses and they end up abandoning their “lifetime” products. Developers who sell lifetime subscriptions just can not afford to produce high-quality, long-lasting software. Reason #3. Lifetime licenses lead to abandoned plugins WordPress plugin development is not a one-off task. It's impossible to sell a plugin once and then keep up development forever. Local video slides: Upload or choose a video from your media library and use it as a slide in the free plugin. Our new goal is to build the most user-friendly image and video plugins for WordPress! So we've just added video support to MetaSlider Gallery! This post introduces the new video galleries feature, plus all the other key improvements to MetaSlider Gallery in the last two months. If you use the MetaSlider Slideshow plugin, here’s what’s new. #1. Video galleries are here! You can now add videos in the same way you build image galleries. YouTube and Vimeo video galleries In the Pro version of MetaSlider Gallery, you can also add videos from YouTube and Vimeo. Here's a live example of a MetaSlider video gallery: #3. Load More button for large galleries Galleries using Grid, Masonry, and Justified layouts can now reveal images in configurable batches. In the example below, the setting is 4 images, so each click of the “Load More” button reveals 4 more. Here’s a video guide to this new “Load More” feature: https://www. youtube. com/embed/qYHzYActdp8 #4. Automatic image ordering You can sort images by newest, oldest, filename A to Z, filename Z to A, or random order instead of relying only on drag-and-drop. This video explains how the ordering feature... For many years, we've recommended Vimeo as a good choice for hosting videos for your WordPress site For a reasonable price, you could store videos with Vimeo and show them to your visitors without ads. This was a good alternative to YouTube, which was free, but it forced you to show ads. However, last year something really bad happened to Vimeo. What happened to Vimeo? In September 2025, Vimeo was sold to a company called Bending Spoons. Their business model is to cut as many staff members as possible, while also increasing prices. Vimeo customers have been reporting price increases of 500% to 1,500%. If you want to keep using Vimeo, we will keep supporting that platform here at MetaSlider. But we're also going to be supporting more video platforms. The new alternative to Vimeo The first alternative we've added to the MetaSlider plugins is Livid. com. Livid is a company founded by staff from Streamyard. com, which was an excellent podcasting platform ... until Streamyard. com was also purchased by Bending Spoons. That’s the origin of the name: the staff loved the platform they built, but the soul was ripped out of the business, leaving them all pretty livid! Livid. com is as close as you'll find to a direct replacement for Vimeo. They provide ad-free video hosting that works with WordPress. They have a migration tool for your Vimeo videos called "LOVE". And the cost is actually more affordable than the original Vimeo prices, let alone the post-acquisition... MetaSlider Gallery 2. 38. 0 makes galleries more useful for mixed media sites: you can now add uploaded videos to galleries and play them in the lightbox alongside your images. Video galleries are here! The headline feature in this release is video support. You can now add videos in the same way you build image galleries. Visitors can open the videos and watch them in the gallery lightbox without leaving the page. In the Free version of MetaSlider Gallery, you can add videos from your Media Library and also from Livid. com. Here's a video guide to this new feature: https://youtu. be/xXkZFGVgNsc In the Pro version of MetaSlider Gallery, you can add also videos from your YouTube and Vimeo. MetaSlider Gallery uses a video's cover art when available, or captures a poster from the video and saves it to your Media Library when needed. In the screenshot below you can see the "Poster" button on videos. Click this to choose a new cover poster for each video. Here's a video guide to adding captions and posters: https://youtu. be/N21hLAP6jLM Other updates and fixes Lighter video pages: The unused video. js library was removed, saving 633KB on pages that load video. Open with improvements: Carousel and Showcase layouts also gain a new "Open with" setting. This lets you choose whether a click on an image, icon or button opens the gallery window, which is especially helpful when you want a clearer call to action on interactive layouts. Clearer editor labels: Empty galleries... MetaSlider Gallery Pro 1. 5 adds several excellent new features. These include branded watermarks, photo metadata, YouTube and Vimeo gallery ivideos, and a new before-and-after comparison layout. This is a major update for photographers, agencies, publishers, and site owners who want richer visual galleries without adding extra tools. YouTube and Vimeo videos MetaSlider Gallery Pro users can now dd videos to galleries by entering a YouTube or Vimeo URL directly in the gallery editor. You can also add videos hosted on your own website and on Livid. com. Here's an example of the YouTube Gallery in action, using videos from our YouTube channel: Here's a video guide to adding YouTube videos to MetaSlider Gallery Pro: https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=8xLieKY4m3Y Watermarking Add a logo watermark to lightbox images, with controls for placement, size, margin, and opacity. The new watermarking option is especially useful for photographers and brands that want to protect or identify images when visitors open them in the gallery window. You can configure global defaults and adjust watermark behavior per gallery, so different galleries can use different presentation settings. Here's an example of a gallery with watermarks on the images. We've added the MetaSlider logo in the bottom-right corner. Photo metadata MetaSlider Gallery Pro can now show EXIF details such as camera, lens, aperture, date, and GPS information. You'll find these settings under the "Captions" option. Here's an example of a gallery that shows photo metadata. Thanks to the WordPress. org Photos team and contributors for these images. iPhone... Metaslider Slideshow Pro 2. 61. 0 makes Layer slides easier to build by adding support for the same Unsplash and Pixabay tabs already available for image slides. That means you can start a Layer slide with stock imagery from those sources instead of uploading media first, while this release also improves previews, source editing, video handling, translations, and security-related dependencies. Feature highlights The headline change is faster access to stock imagery when creating more advanced slides. Unsplash for Layer slides: Browse Unsplash from the slide creation flow and add a selected image as a Layer slide starting point. Pixabay for Layer slides: Use the Pixabay tab in the same way, giving teams another built-in source for visual content. If your workflow relies on Layer slides for text overlays, calls to action, or richer slide designs, this update should reduce a few steps: find an image, add it as a Layer slide, then continue editing your layers in MetaSlider. Before you update This version requires MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 113. 0 or newer. Local Video slides and the Pixabay video search connected to them now come from the main MetaSlider Slideshow plugin, so update the free plugin first if your site is not already on a compatible version. Other changes and fixes Preview reliability: The admin slideshow preview now works when a slide is set to “Show only in the first loop. ” Beta and release candidate compatibility: Pro no longer refuses to load against a beta or RC build that satisfies... MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 113. 0 is a major update for all MetaSlider users. If you use the Free plugin, you can now add video in your sliders. Local Video slides are now included in the free plugin! You can also add Livid. com-hosted videos. Video slides are in the free plugin The biggest user-facing change is that Local Video slides have moved from MetaSlider Pro into the free plugin. If you host videos in your WordPress media library, you can now add them directly to a slideshow without needing the Pro version. Local video slides in Free: Upload or choose a video from your media library and use it as a slide in the free plugin. Livid video slides in Free: You can paste a Livid. com video URL when adding a slide and MetaSlider will create the embed for you. Here's an example of a video slider with local videos: Here's an example of a video slider with Livid. com videos: More reliable imports, previews, and carousel slideshows This release also tightens up several areas that affect day-to-day slideshow management. The Import page now communicates when an import is running, shows progress, and stops listing slideshows as ready to import after they have already been imported. Elementor display fix: Slideshows added through Elementor should no longer appear blank on mobile or Safari. Carousel stability: Carousel-mode slideshows should retain carousel settings when mobile slide settings or per-device slide counts are used. Carousel navigation: Carousel slideshows should no longer require an... Creating beautiful image displays in WordPress just got easier. Check out the new Image Styles feature in MetaSlider Gallery and MetaSlider Slideshow! If you have ever used Instagram, you already know what this feature does. Instagram calls them filters. One tap makes a photo brighter and more vibrant. Another gives it a soft, old-fashioned, black-and-white look. It is the quickest way to change the mood of an image without ever opening a photo editor. You can now do the same thing in WordPress. Image Styles gives you 14 presets, including Noir, Silver, Vintage, Golden Hour, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Dramatic, and Negative. Pick one, and every image in your gallery or slideshow takes on that look. Here's an example of a regular gallery created with MetaSlider Gallery. We haven't applied any image styles to this gallery. Here's the same gallery but with the "Dramatic" filter enabled and rounded corners: And here's the same gallery with the "Vintage" filter and box shadows: These filters also work inside lightbox windows. In the screenshot above, we used the "Vintage" filter for the main gallery layout. If you click on the image to open the full gallery window, you'll now see the "Vintage" filter applied here too. Video guides to the new features If you use the MetaSlider Slideshow plugin, here's a video guide to this new feature: https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=oQZL2ZjHAAc Here’s a video guide for MetaSlider Gallery users: https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=jH87B8f4Aio Wait ... there's more! The new Image Styles feature provides filters,... If you have ever needed a photo for a blog post, a slide deck, or a client mockup and did not have the budget for a stock subscription, you have probably ended up on Pixabay. It is one of the largest free media libraries on the web. After more than a decade online, Pixabay has become a default first stop for designers, marketers, teachers, and WordPress site builders who need a decent image in a hurry. Pixabay is very similar to UnSplash. It’s a stock photo site built for everyday creators. What is Pixabay? Pixabay launched in 2010, founded in Germany by Hans Braxmeier and Simon Steinberger. The premise was simple: a place where photographers and illustrators could share work that anyone else could use, free, without the licensing paperwork that makes traditional stock agencies exhausting. In 2019, Canva acquired the site, alongside its sibling Pexels, and Pixabay has continued to operate as its own destination since. The collection now runs to several million assets, and it is broader than photography alone: Photos: the bulk of the library, from landscapes and food to business and technology. Illustrations and vectors: useful when a photo is too literal. Videos: short b-roll style clips in HD and 4K. Music and sound effects: genuinely handy if you edit video. GIFs: a smaller collection, but there. How does Pixabay licensing work? This is the part that can trip people up. Pixabay originally released everything under CC0 (Creative Commons Zero), effectively a public domain dedication. In... Hey, and thanks for using MetaSlider! You can now customize your carousel views, use Instagram-style filters on your images, add Pixabay photos directly from the slide editor, and much more. Here's a guide to everything that's new in this MetaSlider Slideshow release. Per-device carousel counts Set how many slides appear on mobile, tablet, and desktop so compact screens can show one slide while wider layouts show more. Here's a video guide to this new feature: https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=9MLD0iL_z5s Per-Slide Image Styles The new “Image Styles” feature gives you Instagram-style filters that can quickly change the appearance of your photos. Choose from 14 presets, including Noir, Silver, Vintage, Golden Hour, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Dramatic, and Negative. MetaSlider Gallery 2. 37. 0 is a substantial update for anyone building image-heavy WordPress galleries. The headline feature is a new “Load More” option, so you can reveal images in batches instead of loading everything at once. This release also gives you more control over image ordering and sizing, responsive layouts, and caption styling. Load More button for large galleries Galleries using Grid, Masonry, and Justified layouts can now reveal images in configurable batches. Our goal is to build the most user-friendly image plugins for WordPress. June and July were really busy months for our team, and we added lots of useful new features to MetaSlider Gallery. To help you catch up, we’ve put together a top 10 list. Here’s a quick look at the improvements to MetaSlider Gallery that we think will make the biggest difference when you build and manage your galleries. If you use the MetaSlider Slideshow plugin, here's what's new. 1. Live gallery preview When editing a gallery, you’ll now see “Preview” and “Arrange” options. These let you switch easily between organizing your images and seeing how the finished gallery will look to visitors. The example below shows a live preview of a gallery using the Masonry layout. You can also switch between Desktop and Mobile views to check how your gallery will look on different screen sizes. 2. Easier caption editing Editing captions is now quicker and easier. Each image has its own editing window, where you can enter a caption manually or use the image’s existing WordPress media caption or description. 3. Image download sizes MetaSlider Gallery Pro now includes a “Download Sizes” setting for each gallery. This lets you choose which image sizes visitors can download from the gallery window. As shown below, visitors can select the size that best suits their needs before downloading an image. 4. Image likes MetaSlider Gallery Pro users can now let visitors like individual images.... The new drag-and-drop panel in the left sidebar makes it much easier to move slides around and put them in the right order. 2. Background Color slides MetaSlider Slideshow Pro users can now create slides with a solid background color. These slides are perfect for introductions, promotional messages, calls to action, or any content that doesn’t need a photo. The example below uses the MetaSlider brand colors: 3. Convert sliders to galleries You’ll now see a button that lets you quickly move your slideshow images into MetaSlider Gallery. MetaSlider Gallery is our newest plugin, built to make beautiful WordPress photo galleries easy to create. If you don’t already have it installed, a short setup process will help you get up and running quickly. 4. Searchable slideshow options Looking for a particular setting? You can now use the search field in the settings sidebar to jump straight to... This version adds a new Frame Border setting for Carousel layouts, giving you an easy way to keep carousel frames visible when their background blends into the rest of the page. This release also improves several everyday gallery behaviors, including Carousel captions, slide switching speed, custom links, rounded corners, and image loading in Grid and Masonry layouts. (more... ) MetaSlider Gallery 2. 35. 0 makes it easier to build, preview, and improve your galleries before they go live. You're going to love the new gallery preview feature! Plus captioning also gets a major usability upgrade in this release. And it's now really easy to make galleries from your slideshows. Live gallery preview When you're editing a gallery, you'll see new "Preview" and "Arrange" toggles. You can use these to switch between seeing how the gallery will look to visitors and editing your images. This screenshot shows the "Preview" tab. There's a live preview of a gallery using the Masonry layout. You can use the Desktop and Mobile options to preview your responsive layouts. The new live preview is especially useful when adjusting gallery layout, lightbox behavior, button styles, colors, and captions. Instead of saving and checking a separate page repeatedly, you can make changes in the editor and review the result immediately. And if you click to the "Arrange" option, you can edit each image and change the order. You can see the "Arrange" tab in this screenshot below. Other new features Per-gallery height control: Grid and Justified layouts now have their own Height setting, helping you avoid awkward cropping in individual galleries. Improved caption editing: In the "Arrange" tab you can now see the captions and edit them easily. Caption source selector: Captions now have a single-image modal for faster editing. You can choose whether captions come from manual entry, the WordPress media caption, or the media description.... MetaSlider Gallery Pro 1. 4. 0 adds two great new features for gallery visitors: Selectable image download sizes: Visitors can now choose the image size they want before downloading Image likes: Visitors can heart favorite images directly from the lightbox toolbar. For site owners and editors, this update makes galleries more interactive while also bringing useful feedback into WordPress. Like counts are shown in the gallery editor, so you can quickly see which images are getting the most attention. (more... ) MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 111. 1 is a maintenance release focused on safer settings handling, stability, and a small front-end polish fix. Site owners should update to get improved slideshow setting sanitization, a fix for an HTMLPurifier-related fatal error, and cleaner controls when a slideshow contains only one slide. (more... ) Metaslider Slideshow Pro 2. 59. 0 adds a new Background Color slide type, giving you a simple way to build solid-color or gradient slides without uploading an image. This release also makes captions more flexible with image and icon insertion, improves keyboard accessibility, and fixes several slideshow editing issues. Background Color slides The headline addition is Background Color slides. You can create a slide with a solid color or gradient colors. Then place your caption content over the background. This feature is useful for intro slides, section dividers, promotional messages, calls to action, or any slide where a photo isn't needed. You can seen an example in this next screenshot. This uses the MetaSlider brand colors: Caption improvements This release has some very helpful improvements to captions. You can now insert images and icons into your captions. This screenshot below shows how to add images. The button next to "Add Image" is labeled "Add Icon". Click this and you'll get a pop-up that allows you to choose from hundreds of icons: With the help of icons, you can make your captions stand out more, as with this slide shown below: One-time slides You can now set a slide to appear only on the first loop. This is really useful for welcome messages, temporary intros, or opening promotions. Accessibility improvements We work hard to make sure MetaSlider is the most accessible WordPress slider plugin. Keyboard users will now get a clear visual cue when slideshow navigation arrows receive focus. This helps... MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 111. 0 focuses on making busy slideshow libraries easier to manage and richer to design. The headline additions include converting eligible image slideshows into galleries, adding icons inside captions, searching for slideshows directly in the block editor, and finding settings faster in the slideshow options panel. Feature highlights This is a user-facing update with several improvements aimed at saving clicks in the WordPress admin and giving you more creative options when building slideshows. Convert to Gallery: Sideshows now show a button that helps you quickly move those imnages into the MetaSlider Gallery plugin. If you don't have MetaSlider Gallery installed, there's a short and easy workflow so you can be up-and-running quickly. Searchable block selector: In the Gutenberg block, you can now search by slideshow name when choosing which slideshow to display. Searchable slideshow options: Use the new search field in the settings sidebar to jump straight to the control you need instead of scanning every panel. Other improvements and fixes Accessibility: Arrow controls received focus and usability improvements, helping keyboard users see where they are while navigating. Admin reliability: The update fixes slide count issues after trashing slides, captions disappearing after sidebar reordering, and loading indicators that stayed visible after deleting slides. Editor polish: TinyMCE formatting rows now move more reliably together, and the Add Slide button and toggle colors have been corrected. Theme fix: The Architekt theme now handles navigation positioning more accurately when slides use links. Preview instructions: The slideshow preview guidance has been... MetaSlider Gallery Pro 1. 3. 0 adds a new image protection feature for galleries, giving site owners a simple way to discourage casual downloading of gallery images. This release also cleans up Pro settings, clarifies autoplay controls, updates translations, and requires a safer minimum version of the base MetaSlider Gallery plugin. Image protection The headline addition in 1. 3. 0 is image protection. When enabled, it adds deterrents such as blocking right-click actions and drag-saving. This helps reduce casual image copying. As with any web-based image protection, this is best understood as a deterrent rather than a guarantee. It can help stop common save actions, but it cannot prevent screenshots or determined copying. Cleaner gallery and autoplay settings This update also reorganizes the Pro settings screen so related options are easier to find. The autoplay settings now use clearer labels, including “Autoplay Slide Interval” and “Autoplay Progress Bar Color,” making it more obvious which controls work together. The Autoplay Progress Bar Color field also behaves more naturally when no color has been selected. Instead of appearing as white, an unset value now displays as blank or transparent, which better reflects the actual setting state. Other changes in 1. 3. 0 Safer base plugin requirement: MetaSlider Gallery Pro now requires MetaSlider Gallery 2. 32. 1 or newer, following a caption XSS fix in the base plugin. Translation updates: Locale files have been refreshed across supported languages. Release workflow updates: AI translation updates are now included in the release process for more... MetaSlider Gallery 2. 34. 0 introduces a new way to make your galleries match your site’s design: Image Styles. You can now apply a consistent visual treatment to every image in a gallery, including filters, rounded corners, borders, shadows, opacity, and rotate or flip effects, without editing each image individually. Video Intro the New Image Styles https://youtu. be/jH87B8f4Aio New Image Styles The new Image Styles panel is available in the gallery editor sidebar. This provides Instagram-style filters for your photos. The filters apply to every image in your gallery grid. This is really useful when you want a portfolio, product gallery, event gallery, or photo collection to share the same visual mood. Filters: Choose from 14 presets including Noir, Silver, Vintage, Golden Hour, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Dramatic, Negative, and more. Shape and framing: Add rounded corners and borders to better match your theme or brand style. Depth and emphasis: Use shadows and opacity controls to make gallery images feel more polished. Transform options: Rotate or flip gallery images for more stylized layouts. Here's an example of a regular gallery created with MetaSlider Gallery. We haven't applied any image styles to this gallery, Here's the same gallery but with the "Dramatic" filter enabled and rounded corners: And here's the same gallery with the "Vintage" filter and box shadows: Image filters also work in gallery windows This release also improves consistency between the gallery grid and the window. Image Style filters apply not only to the images shown in the gallery, but... We built the easiest-to-use slider plugin for WordPress with MetaSlider Slideshow. We're now trying to do the same for photo galleries. So I'm not going to claim that the latest release of MetaSlider Gallery has many new features. What is does have is lot of polish. We're aiming to make things easier and smoother. You should be able to upload images and have a gallery ready in less than one minute! MetaSlider Gallery 2. 33. 0 is available today. This version gives you more control over how galleries look, how images are uploaded, and how the expanded gallery window behaves. Easier image uploads and imports You can now add gallery images from more sources, which should be especially helpful when building larger galleries or migrating image collections into WordPress. Upload: Add new image files directly when building a gallery. Media Library: Choose images that are already available in WordPress. Server folder import: Pull in images that already exist on your server. ZIP import: Bring in a batch of images from a ZIP file. More control over each gallery This release adds several customization options that can be managed per gallery, helping you adapt each gallery to its page instead of relying only on site-wide defaults. Caption appearance: When editing a gallery you can adjust the caption text, colors, and backgrounds so the captions are easier to read in thumbnails and the gallery window. Gallery window controls: You can now customize the “Open in Gallery” button, including button text and icon... Metaslider Slideshow Pro 2. 58. 0 makes it easier to build and manage advanced slideshows, led by a new option to duplicate layer slides. If you often create multiple slides with similar layouts, styles, or content blocks, this update should save time by letting you start from an existing layer slide instead of rebuilding from scratch. Plus, MetaSlider Slideshow Pro now supports the most popular 35 languages amongst WordPress users. Feature highlights Duplicate layer slides: You can now create a copy of an existing layer slide so you can reuse a layout and adjust only the content you need. Look for the "Duplicate Layer" icon you see in the screenshot below. Clearer Theme Editor sizing: A new tooltip information helps explain how em and rem units behave when editing slideshow themes. Broader translation coverage: MetaSlider Slideshow Pro now supports many 35 languages including these: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Yoruba. Site owners should update promptly, especially if multiple users can create or edit slideshows. Safer layer slides: Layer slide HTML is now sanitized with HTML Purifier before being rendered on the front end. Safer slide links: Slide URLs are sanitized and escaped more consistently... Metaslider Gallery Pro 1. 2. 0 gives site owners more control over how each gallery looks and behaves. This update adds per-gallery Pro settings, lets you choose which social networks appear in sharing tools, and adds a color picker for the autoplay progress bar, so galleries can better match the needs and branding of each page. Feature highlights Version 1. 2. 0 focuses on practical controls that make galleries easier to tailor for different pages, campaigns, and audiences. Autoplay progress bar color: Pick a custom color for the autoplay progress bar instead of using the default red. Share network selection: Choose which social networks appear in the Share plugin, so visitors only see the options you want to offer. Per-gallery Pro settings: You can now adjust Pro settings on individual MetaSlider slideshows, making it easier to give one gallery thumbnail navigation while leaving another simpler. Settings and interface refinements The settings layout has been reorganized to make the difference between Free and Pro options clearer. Some navigation-related controls now sit in a more focused Navigation area, and Pro feature tooltips have been updated with sharper descriptions. Other improvements and fixes This release also includes several behind-the-scenes improvements focused on security, packaging, translations, and performance. Admin notice hardening: Notice URLs are now escaped and notice messages are sanitized before output. Safer settings saves: Gallery Pro settings now perform their own nonce verification when saved. Cleaner release package: Development Composer packages have been removed from the distributed plugin package. Readme cleanup: The... Hey, and thanks for using the MetaSlider plugins. Our goal here at MetaSlider has always been to build the most user-friendly image plugins in WordPress. This month’s release of MetaSlider Slideshow is a huge step towards that goal. This month's release is MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 110. You'll find the plugin is translated into 35 languages. There's also a new drag-and-drop sidebar to reorder your slides. Over 35 new and updated translations If English isn't your native language, both the MetaSlider Slideshow and MetaSlider Gallery plugins will now be much easier to use. We've translated the plugins into 35 of the most popular languages among WordPress users. In the screenshots below you'll see MetaSlider Slideshow in Thai, Hebrew, Japanese, and Swedish. Here's the full list of new or updated translations in this update: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Yoruba. Drag-and-drop sidebar We regularly talk with MetaSlider users who have hundreds of slides in a single slideshow. Their most common request has been a better way to re-order all these slides. So in this version, you'll find a new left sidebar. This really saves time for users with large slideshows. You can use this to quickly drag your slides into a new position, even if you want to move them from position #300 to position #1. More complete theme demos We've added more... MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 110. 0 focuses on making large slideshow libraries easier to manage. The headline addition is a new left sidebar in the slideshow editor, so you can drag slides between distant positions without the repetitive scrolling that big slideshows often require. Feature highlights If you maintain slideshows with lots of slides, this release should make day-to-day editing feel faster and more organized. Drag-and-drop slide sidebar: Use the new left sidebar while editing a slideshow to jump around and reorder slides more easily. More complete theme demos: Demo coverage has been expanded so each theme has an example, including previously missing themes. There are new demos available for the Architekt, Databold and Undertone themes. Theme filters in admin: Filter themes on the Slideshows screen to find relevant designs faster. Broader translation coverage: MetaSlider now supports many 35 languages including these: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Yoruba. Clearer interface naming: The admin area now favors “Slideshows” and “Gallery” labels instead of older “Home” and “Lightbox” wording. Other improvements and fixes Version 3. 110. 0 also includes fixes and hardening changes that improve accuracy, safer output, and general admin polish. More accurate slide counts: The edit screen now reports the number of slides correctly for large slideshows. Safer imports: Slideshow imports now check for invalid file types and block unsafe URL targets.... Metaslider Gallery 2. 32. 2 adds a new option for sites that want gallery images to appear directly on the page without opening in a separate gallery window. This is a small maintenance release, but the new setting gives site owners more control over how galleries are presented to visitors. Feature highlight Disable the gallery window: You can now turn off the gallery window so images display flat on the page instead of being grouped behind a separate gallery interface. This is useful for portfolio pages, product showcases, documentation, or any layout where you want visitors to see the images immediately as part of the page content. Other changes Image size setting fixed: Gallery images now follow the selected image size setting more consistently. Lightbox conflict fixed: A problem where the “MetaSlider Gallery” category could block the lightbox has been resolved. Author menu visibility fixed: Users with the Author role should no longer see the Gallery menu link when they should not have access. We're delighted to introduce our newest plugin: MetaSlider Gallery. Our goal here at MetaSlider has always been to build the most user-friendly slideshow plugin in WordPress. We’re now bringing that same focus on simplicity, performance, and design to a dedicated gallery plugin. Our MetaSlider Gallery plugin allows you to create stylish image galleries in WordPress. Let's dive in and see what you can do with MetaSlider Gallery. (more... ) Accessibility is an important topic for WordPress developers. We want our websites and plugins to be helpful to as many people as possible. If we build accessible websites, that means that people with disabilities can use them. People with disabilities interact with websites in various ways. Some use screen readers that convert text into spoken words. Others rely on keyboard shortcuts for navigation instead of a mouse. There are also specialized devices like braille displays for those who are blind or have low vision. There's no single solution to make a website accessible for everyone. But developers can try to cover as many use-cases as possible. (more... ) Metaslider Gallery 2. 32. 1 gives site owners more control over gallery thumbnail styling, with new options for thumbnail border and hover colors. It also includes several security-focused fixes around captions, permissions, and license-key exposure, so this is a worthwhile update even if you do not plan to change your gallery design. Feature highlights The main user-facing addition is the ability to customize thumbnail border colors and hover colors, making it easier to match lightbox galleries to your site’s visual style. Thumbnail border color: Set a custom border color so gallery thumbnails fit your theme, brand palette, or page design. Thumbnail hover color: Choose the color visitors see when they hover over thumbnails, giving galleries a more polished interactive feel. After updating, check the thumbnail styling options for your galleries and adjust the new color controls as needed. Other changes This release also hardens several areas of the plugin that handle front-end output and gallery management permissions. Caption sanitization — Image captions are sanitized before being rendered into lightGallery caption data, reducing the risk of cross-site scripting. Gallery duplication permissions — Duplicating galleries now requires the same admin-level permission used by the wider gallery management workflow. REST preview permissions — The gallery preview REST endpoint now follows the plugin’s gallery management permission policy more closely. Because these fixes include security-related changes, administrators should update promptly and confirm that only trusted admin-level users can manage and duplicate galleries. Metaslider Gallery 2. 32. 0 gives site owners a new way to match galleries to their design: you can now choose the autoplay progress bar color instead of using the default red. This release also makes the settings area clearer, updates wording from “lightbox” to “gallery” in key places, and fixes several display issues around captions and Pro options. Feature highlights The headline addition is a new progress bar color setting for galleries using Autoplay. If your gallery advances automatically, you can now choose a progress indicator color that better fits your theme, brand palette, or page design. Custom progress bar color — When Autoplay is enabled, you can now replace the default red progress bar with a color that fits your site. Gallery-focused wording — Settings and UI copy have been updated from “lightbox” to “gallery” for clearer navigation. Rotate and Flip label — The former “Rotate” option now says “Rotate and Flip” so it matches the tools available. Better Free and Pro organization — Settings are more clearly grouped, with refreshed Pro tooltips that explain what each feature does. Other changes and fixes Version 2. 32. 0 also includes practical fixes that should make gallery behavior more consistent, especially for sites using captions, Pro feature toggles, or content filtering options. Caption display fixed — Captions now appear correctly in MetaSlider slideshows when the “Open in Gallery” button is enabled. Pro feature toggles fixed — Pro features can now be disabled from settings as expected. Content filtering corrected —... Metaslider Gallery 2. 30. 0 is a feature-packed update focused on making galleries easier to add, customize, and manage. The headline addition is a new Gutenberg block, so you can insert galleries directly in the WordPress block editor without needing to copy and paste a shortcode first. Feature highlights Gutenberg block: Add galleries directly inside the WordPress block editor using a dedicated block. Showcase layout: Present image collections in a more polished, editorial-style gallery view. Image size controls: Choose which image size is displayed in the gallery window to balance visual quality and performance. Per-slideshow gallery settings: Customize gallery window behavior for individual slideshows instead of relying only on global settings. Usage column: See which posts and pages use each gallery from the gallery list. Click-to-copy shortcodes: Copy a gallery shortcode from the list or editor screen with a single click. Duplicate action — Clone an existing gallery from the editor toolbar when you want to reuse a setup. Admin toolbar edit link — Jump from the front end to the gallery editor while logged in. The new Showcase layout is one of the most visible changes in this release. It gives site owners another presentation option for photo essays, portfolios, news galleries, and other image-heavy content where the gallery itself should feel more prominent. Metaslider Gallery 2. 30. 0 also gives you more control over what visitors see when they open images in the gallery window. You can now choose the displayed image size, which is useful if you... MetaSlider Slideshow 3. 109. 0 makes it easier to review and choose slideshow designs before publishing them. The main user-facing improvements are a new desktop preview view and better filtering for quickstart demos that include hero images, alongside import fixes, refreshed branding, and updated translations. Feature highlights The preview experience now includes a dedicated desktop view, bringing it in line with the responsive preview options used elsewhere in the plugin. This helps you check how a slideshow will look on larger screens before adding it to a live page. Quickstart demos are also easier to browse if you are looking for hero-style slideshow layouts. The update adds filtering and labels for demos that use hero images, so site owners can find full-width, attention-grabbing designs more quickly. Desktop preview: Check slideshow layouts in a desktop-sized view before publishing. Hero image demo labels: Find quickstart demos designed around large hero images more easily. Other changes and fixes This release also includes several polish and maintenance updates that improve the plugin experience across setup, branding, and localization. Quickstart import fix: An import error affecting quickstarts has been fixed, with more graceful handling for failed media imports. Dependency update: Axios has been updated to version 1. 15. 2. Translation updates: Italian, Spanish, and French translations have been refreshed. Updated plugin icons: The plugin icons have been changed to better distinguish slideshow, gallery, and related MetaSlider tools. New plugin name: The plugin is now referred to as “MetaSlider Slideshow” in relevant places. Gallery reference update:... Here at MetaSlider we're often asked about animation in slideshows. A slideshow is often the most prominent feature on a website. It's the "hero" of the site's homepage. So people want to make sure the slideshow is noticeable and adds a "wow" factor. However, we normally recommend focusing on style over flashy animation. Here's a guide to using animation on your WordPress slideshow, and what the animation options are in MetaSlider. (more... ) Metaslider Gallery 2. 23. 0 introduces a stronger foundation for creating image galleries in WordPress: galleries can now exist as their own content, with images selected for each gallery and placement handled through a shortcode or WordPress block. This release also makes the lightbox experience more flexible, giving you more control over when it appears and how visitors are invited to open it. Feature highlights Galleries as their own content — Create and manage galleries separately, choose images for each one, and embed them with a shortcode or block. Per-slide lightbox control — Enable or disable the lightbox for individual slides instead of relying on one setting for every image. Custom lightbox prompts — Replace “Open in Lightbox” with an icon, customize the text, or use the updated defaults for a cleaner presentation. Other changes Version 2. 23. 0 also includes several interface refinements, clearer setting labels, translation updates, and bug fixes that should make galleries easier to configure and manage. Featured image lightboxes — The featured image option now works correctly instead of turning the rest of the image into a direct image link. Custom color schemes — The lightbox icon now works properly when custom color schemes are active. Clearer settings — Width and height settings, autoplay text, tooltips, and the former “Hash URLs” label have been clarified. Cleaner admin layout — Long layout labels are handled more gracefully, the title field has moved left, and gallery titles are now required. Branding and navigation — The plugin name... A MetaSlider user approached us this week and asked if it was possible to show a rotating series of images in a carousel. They wanted several images to be visible at the same time, with a caption over each image. Ideally, the images will automatically refresh every few seconds and there will be arrows if the user wants to move more quickly. All of this certainly is possible with MetaSlider, and in this guide we'll show you how it's done. This image below gives you an idea of the end result. (more... ) Hey, and thanks for using the MetaSlider plugin. Our goal here at MetaSlider has always been to build the most user-friendly slideshow plugin in WordPress. You can now preview responsive layouts more easily, fine-tune how carousel items behave, and try a new Cascade theme, alongside a set of fixes for multilingual sites, the block editor, demos, labels, and translations. Feature highlights The headline addition is responsive previewing. When you are editing a slideshow, the new preview options make it easier to check how your design will look across different screen sizes before it goes live. Carousel setup is also more flexible in this release. A new maximum carousel items setting gives you better control over how many slides can appear at once, which is especially helpful when a carousel that looks good on desktop becomes crowded on mobile. Theme options have expanded too. Version 3. 108. 0 adds the new Cascade theme, updates the Jenga theme so its arrows are vertical, and improves the image carousel demo so it includes a theme out of the box. Responsive previews — Check slideshow layouts at different screen sizes from the editing experience. Maximum carousel items — Control how many carousel slides can appear at once so smaller screens stay usable. Cascade theme — Choose a new theme option for slideshow designs. Vertical navigation polish — The Jenga theme now uses vertical arrows for a better fit with vertical slideshow layouts. Lightbox controls are now easier to find in their own panel, the URL setting language has been improved, and the admin interface gets a small branding refresh with the MetaSlider logo. Feature highlights The biggest usability change is the move of the lightbox option into a dedicated panel. Instead of looking under Advanced options for the “Open in lightbox? ” setting, users now have a clearer place for lightbox-related controls. The “Hash URLs” wording has also been revised to make the option easier to understand. The updated language around unique image URLs should help site owners recognize what the setting does without needing to decode technical terminology. This release also brings the MetaSlider logo into the plugin interface, helping Metaslider Gallery feel more consistent with the wider MetaSlider product family. Other changes Share icon styling fix — Share dropdown icons such as Facebook, Twitter/X, and Pinterest no longer inherit toolbar button styling incorrectly. Better Pro compatibility — The CSS fix helps preserve proper dropdown icon color customization in the Pro plugin. The 2. 21. 0 release of Metaslider Gallery focuses on making gallery and slideshow lightboxes more reliable. It fixes several front-end display issues, including duplicate images, unwanted lightbox behavior, cropped carousel images, and small-image layout problems, while also including a security-related fix that makes this a recommended update. Disabled lightboxes stay disabled — Slideshows should no longer receive lightbox behavior when the lightbox option is not enabled. Add these snippets to your theme's functions. php file, or to a code snippets plugin. Each one uses its own function, so rename the my_ prefix to something unique to your site, and use each function name only once. They work on image slides, and also on most slide types in MetaSlider Slideshow Pro, which use the same filters. How to Change MetaSlider's Own Attributes MetaSlider builds each image tag from a list of attributes: src, width, height, alt, title, class and rel. You can change that list before the tag is built with the metaslider_flex_slider_image_attributes filter. The filter receives the attributes, the slide's data and the slideshow ID. Set a new key to add an attribute, and use unset to remove one. // Add fetchpriority="high" to every image slide function my_metaslider_add_fetchpriority( $attributes, $slide, $slider_id ) { $attributes['fetchpriority'] = 'high'; return $attributes; } add_filter( 'metaslider_flex_slider_image_attributes', 'my_metaslider_add_fetchpriority', 20, 3 ); // Remove the title attribute from the images in slideshow 123 only function my_metaslider_remove_title( $attributes, $slide, $slider_id ) { if ( 123 === (int) $slider_id ) { unset( $attributes['title'] ); } return $attributes; } add_filter( 'metaslider_flex_slider_image_attributes', 'my_metaslider_remove_title', 20, 3 ); Use a priority above 10, as in the examples. MetaSlider's own Lazy Load setting uses this filter at priority 10 to move the... Open the slideshow, then look for 'Trashed Slides' at the bottom of the settings panel on the right and click it to expand. Click 'View trashed slides'. The number next to it shows how many slides are in the trash. Find the slide you want and click 'Restore' under its name. If you want to remove a slide for good instead, click 'Delete Permanently'. A 'Slide restored' message appears on the slide once it's back in your slideshow. Click 'Return to Published Slides' to go back to the slideshow editor. Your restored slides are back in your slideshow, with all their settings. MetaSlider Pro lets you place an image on top of a Layer slide's background, such as a logo, a badge or a ready-made text banner. You add it with the image button in the layer editor, then size and animate it like any other layer. How to Add an Image Layer to a Layer Slide (Pro) Before you start, upload the image to your Media Library. For an overlay, a PNG with a transparent background works best, because the slide's background shows through it. Go to Media, then Library, and click the image you want to use. In the 'Attachment details' window, click 'Copy URL to clipboard'. You will paste this link in the layer editor. Open the slideshow you want to edit. On the Layer slide's 'General' tab, click 'Launch Layer Editor'. Click 'New Layer' to add a layer, or click an existing layer to select it. A new layer starts with the text "New Layer", so click inside it and delete that text first. Then click the image button in the toolbar, the picture icon next to the background color button. In the 'Image Properties' window, paste the link into 'URL' and describe the image in 'Alternative Text'. Set 'Width' to 100% and leave 'Height' empty, so the image scales with the slide on every screen size. Click 'OK'. To make the image a link, open the 'Link' tab in the same window and add the address. You can also choose how the layer appears. Next to 'Animation',... MetaSlider can build a slide from a video hosted on livid. com: you paste the video's link and MetaSlider creates the embedded player for you. This works in the free plugin, and every video keeps its own playback settings. How to Add a Livid Video Slide On livid. com, find the video you want in your library. Click the three dots on it, then choose 'Share and Embed'. In the 'Share & Embed' window, check that the video is set to 'Public' and that 'Enable Embedding' is on, then click 'Copy link'. The video has to be public and allow embedding for it to play in your slideshow. Open the slideshow you want to edit, then click 'Add a new slide' above the slide list. In the window that opens, click 'Livid Video' on the left. Paste the link into the 'Enter the URL of a Livid video' box. MetaSlider checks the link and shows a preview of the player, so you can confirm you picked the right video. Click 'Add to slideshow' to add it as a new slide. Back in the slide list, your new slide has its own playback settings. You can change the video link, and turn 'Mute video', 'Show controls', 'Auto play', 'Lazy load video' and 'Loop video' on or off for this slide on its own. 'Lazy load video' starts on. It shows the video's thumbnail with a play button, and only loads the player once a visitor clicks it, which keeps your page... Every image slide has a caption you can write and style with a visual editor, so you can center your text, change its size and color, and add links, icons, or a button without writing any HTML. A slide can take its caption from the media library instead of from you, and those two sources are read-only, so the formatting toolbar only appears while 'Manual entry' is selected. That is the setting a new slide starts on. How to Center Caption Text Open the slideshow you want to edit. Each slide opens on its General tab, where you will find the 'Caption' field. Check that 'Manual entry' is selected above the caption box. It is selected already unless you changed it, and the editor's toolbar is your sign that you are on the right source. Type your caption, then select the text you want to center. Click the center alignment button in the toolbar. Your text moves to the middle of the caption, and the buttons on either side of it align your text left or right. Click 'Save' to keep the change. Your caption is now centered, and the slideshow preview shows it in place. More Formatting Options The same toolbar carries the rest of the caption formatting: Bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough for emphasis, with a button that clears formatting again. A text color picker, a font size box, and a line height list to control how your caption reads. The color you pick here overrides the 'Caption... MetaSlider Slideshow Pro can overlay an image, like a logo, on top of your slideshow. This requires MetaSlider Slideshow Pro. How to Add a Watermark to Your Slideshow (Pro) Open the slideshow you want to edit, then look for 'Watermark Options' in the settings panel on the right and click it to expand. Turn on 'Watermark'. Click 'Choose Watermark Image' and pick an image from your media library. Choose where the watermark sits with 'Position', and set its 'Width', 'Margin', and 'Opacity'. 'Position' picks one of nine spots for the watermark: top, center, or bottom, each combined with left, center, or right. It sits in the bottom right corner by default. 'Width' sets how wide the watermark image is, in pixels. It's 150px by default — the image's height follows automatically, keeping its own proportions. 'Margin' sets the distance, in pixels, between the watermark and the edges of the slideshow, 20px by default. Centered positions ignore this, since there's no edge to measure from. 'Opacity' sets how transparent the watermark is, from 0 to 100%. It's fully opaque (100%) by default — lower it to make the watermark blend into the slides underneath. Your slideshow now shows the watermark image you chose, positioned and sized the way you set it. MetaSlider's Local Video slides can pull a free video straight from Pixabay, without you needing to download and re-upload it yourself. This works in the free plugin. How to Add a Slide From a Pixabay Video Open the slideshow you want to edit, then click 'Add a new slide' above the slide list. In the window that opens, click 'Local Video' on the left, then click 'Pixabay Library'. Use the search box to find a video, then click one to select it. On the right, set the 'Title' and 'Caption' for the video, and choose its 'Quality'. Click 'Add to slideshow' to add the video as a new slide. Your slideshow now has a new Local Video slide using the Pixabay video you picked, credited to its creator. MetaSlider lets you add a free photo, illustration, or vector from Pixabay straight into your slideshow, without leaving the slide editor. How to Add a Slide From Pixabay Open the slideshow you want to edit, then click 'Add a new slide' above the slide list. In the window that opens, click 'Pixabay Library'. Use the search box, or the type dropdown ('Photos', 'Illustrations', 'Vectors', 'All types'), to find an image, then click one to select it. On the right, set the 'Title', 'Caption', 'Alt Text', and 'Description' for the image, and choose its 'Quality' — 'Preview', 'Medium', or 'Large'. Click 'Add to slideshow' to add the photo as a new slide. Your slideshow now has a new slide using the Pixabay photo you picked, credited to its photographer. In carousel mode, MetaSlider can show an exact number of slides for each device size, instead of leaving it to the automatic Display Minimum and Maximum settings. How to Show a Specific Number of Slides per Device Open the slideshow you want to edit, then look for 'Carousel Options' in the settings panel on the right and click it to expand. Turn on 'Carousel Mode' if it isn't already on — 'Slides to Show per Device' only appears once carousel mode is on. Scroll down to 'Slides to Show per Device'. It shows four number fields, one for each device size — smartphone, tablet, laptop, and desktop. Enter the exact number of slides you want at that device size. Leave a field at 0 to fall back to 'Display Minimum' and 'Display Maximum' for that device size instead. Your carousel now shows the exact number of slides you set for each device size, and falls back to Display Minimum and Maximum wherever you left a field at 0. Image Styles let you apply a one-click filter, rounded corners, border, box shadow, opacity, and rotation or flip to your slideshow's images — set a default for every slide, or override it per slide. How to use Image Styles Open the slideshow you want to edit, then look for 'Image Styles' in the settings panel on the right and click it to expand. Choose a 'Filter' preset, or set your own 'Rounded corners', 'Border', 'Box shadow', 'Opacity', 'Rotate', and 'Flip'. These apply to every slide by default. To override the default for one slide, open that slide and select its 'Image Styles' tab. Set that slide's own 'Filter', 'Rounded corners', 'Border', 'Box shadow', 'Opacity', 'Rotate', or 'Flip'. Leave a field blank (or on 'Default') to keep using the slideshow-wide setting instead. Your slideshow now applies these styles to every slide, with per-slide overrides wherever you set them. The Container Options section of the slideshow editor lets you customize the box that wraps your slideshow — its background color, inner padding, and outer margin. How to use Container Options Open the slideshow you want to edit, then look for 'Container Options' in the settings panel on the right and click it to expand. Turn on 'Container Box' to customize the slideshow's container. This requires MetaSlider Slideshow Pro — without it, the toggle appears disabled with an upgrade prompt. With 'Container Box' turned on, 'Background', 'Padding', and 'Margin' settings appear underneath it. 'Background' is a color picker for the container's background color. It's transparent until you choose a color. 'Padding' (top, right, bottom, left) sets the inner spacing between the container's edge and the slideshow inside it, 10px on every side by default. Increasing it can shift where arrows and navigation sit on the slideshow. 'Margin' (top, bottom) sets the outer spacing above and below the container, separating it from the rest of the page — 10px on top and 30px on the bottom by default. Your slideshow's container box now has its own background, padding, and margin. MetaSlider Gallery Pro can add a heart button to the gallery window so visitors can like the images they enjoy, and show you the running totals back in the gallery editor. Likes are counted per image rather than per gallery, so the same photo shown in two galleries carries one shared total. Nobody has to sign in or leave a comment, which makes it a light way to find out which images people respond to. How to Enable Likes for a Gallery Likes are set per gallery, in the 'Toolbar' section of the gallery settings. That section only appears while the gallery opens in a lightbox, because the heart button lives in the lightbox toolbar alongside the other toolbar controls. What Your Visitors See A heart sits in the gallery window toolbar, just to the left of the close button, with the number of likes beside it. Clicking it fills the heart in and adds one to the count; clicking again takes the like back. The count updates straight away and the heart follows visitors from image to image, so they can like as many pictures as they want without leaving the gallery window. Because there is no sign-in step, each browser remembers the likes it has given. Somebody who opens your gallery on a phone as well as a laptop, or who clears their browsing data, can like the same image again from the fresh browser. How to See the Counts in the Editor Open the gallery again and... MetaSlider Gallery Pro can let visitors choose which size of an image they download, instead of always giving them the one size you display. You pick the sizes on a gallery-by-gallery basis, so a portfolio gallery can offer a print-resolution original while a blog gallery offers something smaller. The choice appears on the download button in the gallery window, and each image only lists the sizes WordPress actually generated for it. How to Choose the Download Sizes for a Gallery The sizes you offer are set per gallery, in the 'Toolbar' section of the gallery settings. The list is built from the image sizes registered on your site, so it reflects your own theme and plugin settings rather than a fixed set. What Your Visitors See In the gallery window, the download button now opens a short menu instead of downloading straight away. Each entry names a size and the dimensions of that particular image, and choosing one downloads that file with the size in its filename, so a visitor collecting two sizes of the same photo does not overwrite one with the other. The menu adapts to each image as visitors move through the gallery. A small image that was never resized has nothing to choose between, so it falls back to a plain download button, while the images beside it still offer the full list. Your visitors can now download your gallery images at whichever size suits them. The gallery editor shows a live preview of your MetaSlider Gallery right beside your settings, so you can see exactly how it will look on your site before you save. The preview updates as you change the layout, columns, spacing, appearance, and image styles, and you can open the Gallery Window straight from the preview to check it the way a visitor would. How to Switch Between Preview and Arrange The main pane of the gallery editor has two buttons at the top: 'Preview' and 'Arrange'. Preview renders the gallery as it appears on the front end, while Arrange shows the thumbnail grid where you add, remove, and reorder images. A gallery that already has images opens in Preview; an empty one opens in Arrange so you can start adding photos. Open a gallery from your Galleries list to reach the editor, then look for the 'Preview' and 'Arrange' buttons above the images. Choose 'Preview' to see the live rendering of your gallery, or 'Arrange' to go back to the thumbnail grid and change which images are included or the order they appear in. How to See Your Settings Applied Live Every control in the settings sidebar feeds the preview. Change the layout, column count, gap, appearance, or image styles and the preview refreshes to match, so you never have to save and reload to check a change. Adjust any setting in the sidebar on the right and watch the preview update to reflect it. In Preview, click any image... Captions let you add a line of text to each image in your MetaSlider Gallery, shown on the gallery thumbnails, in the gallery window, or both. You can type a caption yourself or pull it from the image's Media Library caption or description. How to Add or Edit a Caption Every image in the gallery editor has a caption bar along its bottom edge. When an image has no caption yet, the bar reads 'Add caption'; once a caption is set, the bar shows its text. Open your gallery in the editor. If it opens in preview, click 'Arrange' above the images so you can see each caption bar along the bottom of a thumbnail. Click the caption bar to open the caption editor. Type your caption in the text area, and use the formatting toolbar to add bold, italics, or links. The preview on the left updates as you type so you can see how the caption will look over the image. The tabs above the editor — 'Manual entry', 'Media caption', and 'Media description' — let you enter text for each source separately, and the tab marked with an orange dot is the source currently shown in your gallery. Use the arrows at the top of the editor to move to the previous or next image without closing the window — your text is saved as you go. When you have finished, click 'Done'. How to Choose Where a Caption's Text Comes From By default each caption is... The carousel layout In MetaSlider Gallery shows your gallery one image at a time. Then with the fullscreen turned on your visitors can expand it to fill their entire screen. Fullscreen is a MetaSlider Gallery Pro feature, and it works right from the carousel toolbar. . There's no need to maximize the gallery first. Open your gallery in the editor and choose the 'Carousel' layout under Layout. Scroll down to the 'Toolbar' section and turn on 'Fullscreen'. Save the gallery so your change takes effect. Visit the page with your gallery and click the fullscreen icon in the top corner of the carousel to expand the image to fill the screen. Your carousel now opens in true fullscreen, with the image filling the whole screen instead of the page around it. Press the fullscreen icon again or the Escape key to return to the normal view. The Image Styles panel lets you restyle every image in a MetaSlider Gallery at once, so the whole grid shares a consistent look without editing any image files. The preview updates as you go, so you can see each change before you save. Available Filters You can control all of the following from the one panel: 'Filter': apply a photo filter such as 'Noir (B&W)', 'Vintage', 'Golden Hour', 'Vivid', or 'Dramatic'. 'Rounded Corners': drag the slider to round the corners of every image, measured in pixels. 'Border Width', 'Border Style', and 'Border Color': add a border and choose its thickness, line style, and color. 'Box Shadow': cast a 'Light', 'Medium', or 'Heavy' drop shadow behind each image. 'Opacity': drag the slider to fade every image, measured as a percentage. 'Rotate' and 'Flip': turn every image by a fixed angle or mirror it horizontally, vertically, or both. How to style your gallery images Open the gallery you want to style, then find the 'Image Styles' panel in the settings sidebar on the right. Pick a look from the 'Filter' menu. The preview grid updates instantly, so you can compare presets like 'Noir (B&W)', 'Vintage', or 'Vivid' before you commit. Now you can fine-tune the rest with the controls below the filter. Drag the 'Rounded Corners' and 'Opacity' sliders, add a border or box shadow, and rotate or flip if you need to. Every change shows up in the preview right away. Click 'Save Gallery' to apply your styles to the live... MetaSlider Gallery Pro can discourage visitors from casually saving your images by blocking right-click, dragging, and the mobile long-press menu, both on the gallery and inside the lightbox it opens. It is a deterrent rather than a lock: the images are still delivered to the browser, so a determined visitor can reach them, but the everyday save-and-share paths are closed off. How to Protect a Single Gallery's Images Each gallery has its own 'Protect images' toggle, so you can protect the galleries that need it and leave the rest untouched. How to Protect Images on New Galleries by Default If you want protection switched on everywhere from the start, set it once in the plugin settings. New galleries then inherit it, and you can still turn it off for any individual gallery. Go to "Global Settings" then "Behavior" and look for the "Protect Images" option. Your gallery images are now protected from right-click, dragging, and long-press saving, on both the gallery and in the lightbox. The MetaSlider Gallery plugin allows you to create image galleries that can be placed anywhere on your WordPress site. To create a new gallery, find the "Galleries" screen as shown in the screenshot below: There are five layouts available for your image gallery: Grid, Masonry, Justified, Carousel, and Showcase. You can select a layout from the right sidebar. The "Grid" layout option will show your images in rows and columns. Each row and column will be the same size. The "Masonry" layout option will also show the images in a grid-like layout, but this approach has a flexible placement that fills gaps left by shorter items. The "Justified" layout option arranges images in rows. This layout allows each image to keep its original aspect ratio, so it won't always be possible to fill each row edge-to-edge. The "Carousel" shows one main image at the time. The visitor can use arrows or the thumbnail navigation to browse to the next image. The "Showcase" layout also shows one image at a time. In this layout, the arrows and the thumbnail navigation are both underneath the image. The idea for this feature came from MetaSlider users who had very long captions that fit on large screens. However, they needed to use shorter captions on small screens. In the screenshot below, you can see that I'm choosing to hide an element on smartphones. After choosing a device option, you'll get a shortcode as you can see in this next image. The progress bar shows the visitor how much time is left before the slideshow moves to the next slide. This slideshow below has an example of the progress bar feature: The "Progress Bar" feature can be enabled while editing a slideshow. The "Slide Delay" option controls how long the progress bar will run. We are happy to provide invoices and receipts for all transactions. However, we often get requests from MetaSlider users who want us to fill in extra paperwork. This is paperwork that is required by their organization and includes vendor registration information, security assessments, and more. This can also include custom invoices and payment methods. As a small team, this paperwork can be very time-consuming. We can complete this extra paperwork, although we will require you to purchase the “Unlimited” option for MetaSlider. We do have some default company information available: Address: MetaSlider LLC, 6635 Pirate Perch Trail, Lakewood Ranch, 34202. Tax Number: Our company is registered in Florida. You can see an example of this button in the screenshot below. The Play / Pause button in the bottom-left corner of the slideshow. In general, we recommend being careful with enabling Auto Play for your slideshows as it may annoy or confuse some users. If you do want slides to move automatically, it’s a good idea to provide people with a Play / Pause button so they can stop them using this feature. Enabling this also helps you to create accessible slideshows. You’ll find this feature in the “Advanced Options” area when you’re editing a slideshow. This feature is available to all MetaSlider themes. You can add extra text to theses buttons. In the screenshot below, you can see extra text added to the "Play Text and "Pause Text" areas. It can optimize, resize, and compress images, as well as convert images to WebP format for faster loading web pages. One issue we've seen reported between MetaSlider and the Smush plugin is with the "Lazy Load" feature. Smush describes it this ways: "This feature stops offscreen images from loading until a visitor scrolls to them. " The impact on MetaSlider is that it can cause images to appear briefly out of place before snapping into the correct place. If you see this happening on your site, try changing the settings in Smush's Lazy Load feature so skip the MetaSlider images. Unsplash is one of the most popular stock photo sites in the world. The site has an ethos of sharing that is similar to the WordPress community. Photographers from all over the world upload their photos and allow you to re-use those photos on your projects. When you use MetaSlider to create sliders, you can access Unsplash to search for and add images. You don't have to worry about paying for Unsplash images or navigating copyright requirements. With Unsplash images, you are allowed to “copy, modify, distribute and use the photos for free, including commercial purposes, without asking permission from or providing attribution to the photographer or Unsplash”. Click here to view the full license. It is good behavior to give credit to the photographer and link to their work, but this isn't required. To start using Unsplash images, edit a slideshow in MetaSlider. Click the "Add Slide" button" in the top-right corner. Click the "Unsplash Library" tab. You will now be able to search for any image in Unsplash. MetaSlider will automatically insert an image that gives credit to the original photographer's work. You can remove this if you don't want it on your site. Click the blue "Add to slideshow" button. MetaSlider will now display a progress bar as the plugin imports the image to your site’s Media Library. If you have problems inserting the images, it could be because the full images are very large. I would recommend changing the “Quality” setting to “Regular” if you want... TikTok Slides are included in MetaSlider Pro. This may not always be an accurate preview because the CSS for your site may be slightly different between the preview and the frontend of your site. Some types of slide have a recommended height and width. This is normally because of the default settings on the original platform. The height is always first so "1280 x 720" translates to 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixel high. Click here for more on aspect ratios. The height and width settings are in the "Main Options" area of MetaSlider, as in this screenshot: YouTube Slides YouTube uses a 16:9 aspect ratio for regular videos. In the example below, we've added a Google UTM tracking code to this single slide. This "Link" feature is also available for Local Video and External Video slides. The MetaSlider team works hard to make sure the plugin is accessible for people using screen readers and/or people with disabilities. If you see any way that we can improve our support for accessible users, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Core Accessibility Features The main MetaSlider plugin provides accessibility features that do not require you to configure any settings. One key feature is our use of ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) which defines define ways to make the web more accessible. MetaSlider uses aria-roledescription and aria-label. Screen readers can use this to identify why an element is on the website and what it does. Mozilla has good introductions to aria-roledescription and aria-label. This screenshot below shows an example of that code in the MetaSlider output for a slideshow. Next, here's a second example using a single slide. MetaSlider again uses aria-roledescription and aria-label. In this example, we also use aria-hidden to indicate that this slide is off-screen and not currently in use. Accessibility Options In addition to our core accessibility features, MetaSlider also provides some options in the "Accessibility Options" area of the slideshow editing screen: Keyboard Controls: Use the forward and back arrows on your keyboard to navigate through the slides. Tabindex for navigation: This helps to hide inactive slides from screenreaders. ARIA Live: Screenreaders will announce when the slides change. ARIA Current: This helps screenreaders to understand which slide is currently active. Keep scrolling down for more detailed guides to each of these... In previous versions of MetaSlider, there are several slideshow libraries available. These included FlexSlider, Responsive Slides, Nivo Slider, and Coin Slider. In MetaSlider 3. 60 (released in 2023) we disabled three of those options by default. We now focus all our development efforts on Flexslider. When you first install MetaSlider, you will no longer see the option to choose Responsive Slides, Nivo Slider, and Coin Slider. Those libraries are now marked as “Legacy”. There are some things to note here: We are not planning to remove those legacy libraries, but new features will be Flexslider-only. Existing users will still see the four library options. You can change this using the “Disable Legacy Libraries” setting. If you are having problems with any of the Legacy libraries, we recommend changing to Flexslider. The Post Feed Slides feature in MetaSlider allows you to pull content into the slideshow from the taxonomy on the screen. For example, if you are viewing an archive page for the "Apple" category, the URL will be /category/apple/. It is possible to place a MetaSlider slideshow on this screen and automatically show the content from this category. On a Post Feed slide, click the "Post Types" tab. For "Source posts", select this option: "Automatically choose post from the current frontend taxonomy". You can use any coding technique or page-builder to place a slideshow on archive pages. In this example, we'll use the Site Editor feature in the WordPress core. In this screenshot below, we've placed a MetaSlider shortcode into the Archive template. This approach will show a MetaSlider slideshow on top of every archive page. This screenshot below shows a slideshow on a Category archive page. This guide will show you how to create custom MetaSlider slideshow designs using code. This will help you if you're a theme developer and want to provide a custom MetaSlider theme. For example, we are going to take the "cubic"folder. Create a folder called "ms-themes" inside your WordPress theme. Paste the folder for your theme copy inside "ms-themes". There are two things you will need to modify after moving the theme: MetaSlider does require that your theme has a unique name. Here's how to set up the "Image Animation" option: Go to "MetaSlider" in your WordPress admin area and edit a slideshow. Choose "Slide" as the effect in the "Transition Options" area. Under the "Image Animation" option, you can see over 30 different settings. I'd recommend testing a few of these effects to see which works best with your slideshow. These effects will work for slides that load both vertically and horizontally. The best place to preview all of these options is on the website of the developer who built the original version of this feature called "Easing". Click here to visit the demo website. You can choose the options from the dropdowns and then click the big blue "The Clicker" button. Here's a live example using the "Ease In Elastic" option. In the case of MetaSlider, it helps you move one image off the screen and see the next image. One way to see how Touch Swipe works is to see it in action. If you're reading this on a mobile phone or another touch-enabled device, we have two examples below for you. One example works with touch swipe and one does not. If you use the normal "Gallery" block in WordPress, it will show your images but you will not be able to use your finger to navigate between the images. However, if you view a MetaSlider slideshow, you will be able to manually move from one image to the next. Place your finger on any image in the slideshow below, and you'll be able to slide that image off the screen. You can enable this feature for your slideshows using the "Touch Swipe" option: MetaSlider helps you create stylish slideshows by automatically cropping your images to a standard height and width. You can control which area of the image is shown using the settings shown in the next step of this tutorial. Standard: This will automatically crop all your images to the "Width" dimension set inside your slideshow. The "Height" dimension will be adjusted proportionally based on the "Width". Disabled: This will disable all image cropping options. You can use the "Smooth Height" option to make sure the navigation arrows are always visible, no matter the image size. Disabled (Smart Pad): This is the best option for slideshows with a mixture of different image sizes. Smart Pad works by disabling MetaSlider’s image cropping features. Instead, the Smart Pad feature will automatically add padding to portrait images. Click for more on Smart Pad. The Crop Tab for Image Slides Image Slides in MetaSlider provide a "Crop" tab. This option is effective if you are using the "Smart Crop" option. You will be able to choose how images are cropped if the original images do not exactly match the height and width of your slideshow. Showing Larger Images By default, MetaSlider will crop your...
