# Forage

> Forage is a U.S. payments company that lets merchants accept SNAP EBT (food stamps) and EBT Cash online and in-store, and runs the free Forage app, where SNAP shoppers check their EBT balance and earn rewards on groceries. Forage is USDA-certified to process SNAP EBT payments. It is not a government agency and does not issue or control benefits.

Two audiences use this site:

- **SNAP EBT shoppers**: the Forage app (iOS and Android) checks your EBT balance directly with your state, and lets you earn rewards on groceries through partner stores, receipt uploads or linked store accounts. You withdraw rewards to PayPal or a virtual Visa card. Forage never stores your EBT PIN and does not ask for your Social Security number. Forage makes money from EBT payment processing fees paid by stores and from labeled sponsored offers, not by selling personal data.
- **Merchants and platforms**: grocers, convenience retailers, delivery apps, marketplaces and POS platforms use Forage to accept SNAP EBT and EBT Cash, plus HSA/FSA cards online.

Also called: Forage EBT, the Forage app. The Help Center calls app rewards "EBT cash back". Rewards are points, not cash, until you withdraw them (see the rewards program terms).
