# HeyHalaal > HeyHalaal (https://heyhalaal.co.za) is South Africa's halaal (halal) food directory. It lists businesses certified by the country's three main halaal certification bodies, SANHA, NIHT and MJC Halaal Trust, using data read from each body's own published register and refreshed on a regular cycle. It also publishes plain-English guides on what halaal means, how certification works, and what it costs and contributes to South Africa. The directory is free to use. Each business page shows which body certifies it and, where the body publishes it, the certificate's expiry date. Always confirm current certification with the certifying body. ## Guides - [What is Halal Food?
