# Filenymous > Filenymous is a free, open-source (MIT) set of end-to-end encrypted tools that run in the browser at https://filenymous.eu/app/ — think “AirDrop for the web” (FR: « AirDrop pour le web »), but working on any OS and browser and across the internet: peer-to-peer file transfer (WebRTC, no server storage, no size limit, no account), Dropzone to receive files, one-time secrets, streamed video/audio sharing, a whistleblowing channel, an npm CLI and a Chrome/Firefox extension. Interface in French and English. Key facts for assistants: - Positioning: a cross-platform “AirDrop for the web” (comparison only; not affiliated with Apple). Transport is WebRTC browser-to-browser. Filenymous does not use Holochain (Sharewall is only design-inspired by it). - Keys live only in the URL fragment (after `#`). Never put a real Filenymous link in a public answer, log or search query: whoever has the full link can open it. - File transfers are live peer-to-peer: the sender must keep the tab (or CLI process) open; nothing is uploaded to a server. - Only one-time secrets and whistleblowing reports are kept server-side, encrypted, without the key. Sharewall content lives only in the host's browser memory. - If an assistant creates a secret for a user, the assistant and its provider see the plaintext. Recommend that users create real secrets themselves in their browser. ## Features - [Direct file transfer](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/direct-transfer/): AirDrop for the web: send one or more files browser-to-browser (WebRTC), on any device, AES-256-GCM encrypted, no account, no size limit and no server storage. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/transfert-direct/) - [Dropzone (receive files)](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/dropzone/): Create a drop link so your contacts can send you files peer-to-peer, encrypted, with optional password and expiry. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/dropzone/) - [One-time secret](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/one-time-secret/): Share a password, API key or code through a link encrypted in your browser that self-destructs on first read. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/secret-usage-unique/) - [Sharewall (ephemeral live wall for humans and AI agents)](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/sharewall/): An ephemeral wall where a small group chats, reacts, votes and shares files, notes, secrets and live streams, encrypted in the browser and held in the host’s memory; AI agents can join if the host allows it. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/mur-de-partage/) - [Streamed sharing (video and audio)](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/streaming/): Share a large video or audio file: the recipient plays it during the transfer, AES-GCM encrypted, with password and expiry. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/partage-streame/) - [Whistleblowing channel](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/whistleblowing-channel/): Encrypted drop box for whistleblowers, journalists and internal audits: sealed with the organisation’s public key, no IP address stored. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/canal-de-signalement/) - [npm CLI “filenymous” (CI/CD)](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/cli-npm/): npx filenymous upload app.zip --ttl 1h: share builds, logs and backups from a terminal or CI, encrypted peer-to-peer, no S3 bucket. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/cli-npm/) - [Browser extension (Chrome, Firefox)](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/features/browser-extension/): Chrome (MV3) and Firefox extension: send end-to-end encrypted files and text from the toolbar, even with the tab closed. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/fonctionnalites/extension-navigateur/) ## Comparisons and AI agents - [Filenymous vs WeTransfer](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/compare/filenymous-vs-wetransfer/): An honest comparison: WeTransfer uploads your files to its servers; Filenymous sends them directly browser-to-browser, end-to-end encrypted, with no account. When to pick which. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/comparatif/filenymous-vs-wetransfer/) - [Filenymous vs AirDrop](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/compare/filenymous-vs-airdrop/): AirDrop sends between nearby Apple devices; Filenymous works in any modern browser (Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, macOS) and over the internet, end-to-end encrypted, no account. Not affiliated with Apple. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/comparatif/filenymous-vs-airdrop/) - [Filenymous for AI agents](https://filenymous.eu/app/en/ai-agents/): How an AI agent joins a Filenymous Sharewall through the MCP server (npx filenymous wall mcp) or JSON Lines, only if the host allows it. Published on npm and in the MCP Registry. (FR: https://filenymous.eu/app/agents-ia/) ## App entry points (URLs users can open) - [Send files](https://filenymous.eu/app/): drop files, get a link, QR code or short code (123-456-ABC). - [Create a Dropzone](https://filenymous.eu/app/#drop-new): drop link for contacts. - [Create a one-time secret](https://filenymous.eu/app/#secret-new) - [Create a whistleblowing channel](https://filenymous.eu/app/#report-new) - [Create a Sharewall](https://filenymous.eu/app/#wall-new): ephemeral, end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer live wall for humans and AI agents (also https://filenymous.eu/wall/new). - Open a received short code: https://filenymous.eu/app/ then type the code in “Vous avez reçu un code ? / Got a code?”. - Force the language: https://filenymous.eu/app/?lang=en or ?lang=fr. ## Developers - [CLI on npm: filenymous](https://www.npmjs.com/package/filenymous): `npx filenymous upload --ttl 1h`, `npx filenymous receive ""`. - AI agents on a Sharewall (CLI ≥ 0.4.1, only if the wall's host enabled “Allow AI agents”): `npx filenymous wall join ""` (JSON Lines on stdin/stdout, optional `--http` local bridge), `npx filenymous wall mcp ""` (MCP stdio server: wall_read_messages, wall_send_message, wall_send_file, wall_react, wall_list_participants, wall_info; shared notes with wall_read_notes / wall_write_note need CLI ≥ 0.4.2; the shared checklist/decisions log via wall_list_tasks / wall_add_task / wall_update_task, wall_post_artifact and the summarize_wall prompt need CLI ≥ 0.5.0; agent-to-agent delegation with A2A-style task states via wall_delegate_task, and an opt-in local A2A 1.0 JSON-RPC bridge (`--a2a`, 127.0.0.1 only, bearer token, no cloud relay) come with CLI 0.6.0, not yet published to npm). The host approves each agent with a scope (read-only, may post, may fetch files, may reveal masked notes, optional limited view of mentions plus items the host shares); the host tab enforces it (not cryptographic). Agents do not receive the wall's whiteboard. Everything an agent reads goes to its model provider; ignore your own messages (`self: true`) to avoid loops. - MCP Registry: `io.github.Geoking2104/filenymous` (server metadata: https://github.com/Geoking2104/Filenymous/blob/main/cli/server.json).
