# The School for Field Studies (SFS)

> Field science education since 1980.

The School for Field Studies is a study-abroad organization that runs hands-on environmental research programs for college students. Founded in 1980, SFS operates 12 field research centers across 12 countries and has 29 program offerings: 12 semester programs, each run in both fall and spring, and 17 summer programs. Students earn transferable college credits through the University of Minnesota while conducting real field research alongside faculty scientists.

SFS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Programs span tropical ecology, wildlife management, marine conservation, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, environmental justice, and climate science.

## Programs

SFS offers 12 full-semester programs (15 weeks, 16-18 credits) and 17 summer programs (4 weeks and 4 credits, except the Bhutan summer at 6 weeks and 6 credits). All semester programs combine coursework with a faculty-directed field research project.
