You may file directly with FMCSA through a process agent yourself. ## Facts (with primary sources) - Form BOC-3 is "Designation of Agents for Service of Process." It names a process agent in each required state (49 CFR 366.2T, 366.4T: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-III/subchapter-B/part-366). - Motor carriers: a process agent files the BOC-3 on the carrier's behalf. Brokers and freight forwarders without trucks may file their own (FMCSA: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration/form-boc-3-designation-agents-service-process). - Only one BOC-3 can be on file at a time. A new filing replaces the old one (49 CFR 366.6T: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/section-366.6T). - FMCSA charges no government fee for the BOC-3. Process-agent companies charge one-time or yearly service fees. - A BOC-3 doesn't expire. It stays on file until replaced. - Blanket process-agent companies cover every state on one filing (49 CFR 366.5T); FMCSA lists them at https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration/process-agents. - If a designation becomes invalid, FMCSA may issue an Order to Show Cause; the company has 30 days to file a new BOC-3 (FMCSA MC-RS-2019-0002). - New authority applicants must have a BOC-3 on file within 20 days of the FMCSA Register notice (49 CFR 365.109T(a)(6): https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/section-365.109T). - Where to check a BOC-3: FMCSA's Motus public search (https://motus.dot.gov/public/search), by USDOT number, no login. L&I only shows historical records since May 14, 2026, and SAFER doesn't show BOC-3 status. ## What it sells - Standard BOC-3: $75 one-time. One blanket filing covering all 50 states + D.C.; no annual renewal. - Authority Package: $125 one-time. Everything in Standard, plus priority processing (handled first in our own queue; no faster FMCSA processing), MC Watch (if the MC number is not issued yet, FMCSA's records are watched and the filing goes out as soon as it posts), the Compliance Vault with a broker share link, and UCR/MCS-150 renewal reminders. The vault, reminders and MC Watch are Authority Package only. - Optional UCR registration add-on in checkout (0-2 vehicles): $90 one-time, or $80/year as a subscription. ## Who files - Filings are made by our process agent partner (described on https://www.fastboc3filing.com/about and in the FAQ https://www.fastboc3filing.com/faq/who-actually-files-my-boc-3). FastBOC3Filing prepares the order; it is not FMCSA, not a government agency and not the process agent. ## Timing - Orders by 4 PM ET on a business day are filed that day; later orders are filed the next business morning. A filed BOC-3 usually shows in FMCSA's Motus public search within about one business day; FMCSA controls that timing. - Filing the BOC-3 doesn't activate operating authority. FMCSA controls activation, which also needs insurance on file and its own review. ## Guarantee - Refile-or-refund guarantee (https://www.fastboc3filing.com/refund): we prepare your order; it is filed with FMCSA the same business day, and we email you the filed copy. If FMCSA rejects your filing because of an error on our side, it is refiled free, and if it still can't be fixed, we refund your package price ($75 Standard, $125 Authority Package). ## Common questions - How much does a BOC-3 filing cost? FMCSA charges no government fee for the BOC-3; you pay the process-agent service. FastBOC3Filing charges $75 one-time for the Standard BOC-3 (all 50 states + D.C., no renewals) or $125 one-time for the Authority Package. - How long does a BOC-3 take? Orders placed by 4 PM ET on a business day are filed that day; later orders are filed the next business morning. A filed BOC-3 typically shows in FMCSA's Motus public search within about one business day. FMCSA's review of a new authority application runs on its own schedule. - What is a BOC-3? A BOC-3 (Designation of Process Agents) is the FMCSA filing that names a process agent in every state to accept legal papers for a motor carrier, broker or freight forwarder. FMCSA won't activate operating authority until one is on file (49 CFR Part 366). - Do I need a BOC-3 as a freight broker or freight forwarder? Yes. Brokers and freight forwarders with FMCSA authority need a BOC-3 on file, just like motor carriers. If you don't operate trucks, you may file your own; many still use a blanket process-agent company so one filing covers every state. - How do I check that my BOC-3 is on file? Check your BOC-3 in FMCSA's Motus public search (motus.dot.gov/public/search). No login needed: search your USDOT number (not your MC number) or your company’s legal name, open your operating authority, and look for the process agent (BOC-3) details. It usually shows within about one business day of filing; FMCSA controls that timing. L&I only shows historical records since May 14, 2026, and SAFER doesn't show BOC-3 status. - Can I file a BOC-3 myself? If you operate trucks, no: FMCSA says a motor carrier's BOC-3 must be filed by a process agent. Brokers and freight forwarders that don't operate trucks may file their own. FastBOC3Filing is a private service, not affiliated with FMCSA. - What happens after I order? Your payment receipt arrives by email right away. Your BOC-3 is filed the same business day if you order by 4 PM ET (otherwise the next business morning), and we email you the filed copy. You can check it in FMCSA's Motus public search, usually within about one business day. - What's included in the $125 Authority Package? Everything in the $75 Standard BOC-3, plus priority processing (your order is handled first in our own queue; FMCSA processes every BOC-3 the same way), MC Watch, the Compliance Vault with a broker share link, and UCR/MCS-150 renewal reminders. $125 one-time. ## Key pages - [BOC-3 filing service ($75)](https://www.fastboc3filing.com): order a BOC-3 filing ($75 one-time) - [What is a BOC-3 filing?](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/guides/what-is-a-boc-3-filing): what the form is, who needs it and how it gets filed, with 49 CFR 366 sources - [BOC-3 filing cost](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/guides/boc-3-filing-cost): what a BOC-3 costs; FMCSA charges no fee; published prices compared - [Form BOC-3, field by field](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/guides/boc-3-form): what the form carries, why a carrier can't mail in the PDF, and who may file it - [Process agent for trucking (BOC-3)](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/process-agent): what a process agent is, what one costs, how to find one, and the broker self-filing rule (49 CFR 366) - [How to file a BOC-3](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/how-to-file-boc-3): step-by-step - [Who needs a BOC-3?](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/guides/do-i-need-a-boc-3): which carriers, brokers and freight forwarders need one, and who doesn't - [Can I file my own BOC-3?](https://www.fastboc3filing.com/can-i-file-my-own-boc-3): Motor carriers can't: a process agent files the BOC-3 on the carrier's behalf.
