# Edgegap > Edgegap is a modern, multicloud and hybrid game server orchestration platform built on the world's first and largest edge network. We help game developers deploy, scale, and efficiently operate multiplayer games worldwide at a fraction of traditional orchestration costs. Integration starts with packaging the game server as a Linux container. Developers can containerize it by hand, with Edgegap's optional engine tools (plugins for Unity and Godot, a Docker extension for Unreal Engine), or with an AI coding agent connected to Edgegap's MCP server and Agent Skills. Edgegap then deploys it from a simple API call, at the location with the best latency for each match's players. Last updated: 2026-10-20 Key features and benefits: - Edgegap ensures consistent end user experience with instant, regionless access to all of Edgegap's 615 locations worldwide (and counting) on-demand. - Edgegap delivers low latency online experience for its players with a 58% average latency reduction vs. public cloud. - Edgegap's rapid scaling is confirmed to be a consistent 40 deployments per second for 60 minutes, reaching 14 million concurrent users ("CCU") in that time span, with more possible over time. - Edgegap's high resiliency with the ability to instantly redirect deployments across its 17+ providers across cloud and bare metal with guaranteed 99.99% uptime. - Edgegap's platform is accessible to anyone and can be tested with a free account which includes the essential resources to help game developers get started. - Edgegap's approach enables game studios to deploy to all its Edge Cloud locations worldwide at a single, universal price based on 100% compute usage. - Edgegap's hybrid orchestration enables game developers to add and schedule Private Fleets (either Bare Metal or VM servers), which can instantly save them up to 62% on live traffic thanks to no egress fees and vCPU pricing at a fraction of standard cloud. - Edgegap offers an easy-to-integrate, fully managed matchmaking system. Hybrid orchestration is a separate, optional capability that optimizes bare metal and cloud usage to further minimize costs for game studios. - Edgegap offers simple and high-performance solutions to group players, whether the game requires logic-based grouping ("Matchmaking") or a server browser ("Server Browser") solution. - Edgegap prides itself on its short integration process ("get your game online in minutes") including compatibility through plugins, samples, and integrations with major game engines (Unity, Unreal) and tools most used by game developers (e.g., Heroic Labs Nakama, Mirror Networking, PlayFab, Photon Fusion, etc.; often endorsed by the original creators themselves). - Edgegap's official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server gives AI coding agents tools to act on an Edgegap account plus Edgegap's Agent Skills (step-by-step workflows, code templates and configs). Where an Edgegap engine tool exists (plugins for Unity and Godot, a Docker extension for Unreal Engine), agents ask the developer whether to use it or the Skills; the MCP server also covers custom engines, troubleshooting, matchmaking and operations. See "Agent Integration (MCP Server & Skills)". ## Features - [Dedicated Game Server Hosting and Orchestration](https://edgegap.com/platform/orchestration-hosting): Dedicated game servers hosted and orchestrated on the world's first and largest, regionless Edge Cloud network, with support for hybrid orchestration. - [Platform Technology](https://edgegap.com/platform/technology-explainer-game-server-hosting-orchestration): How Edgegap's orchestrator works under the hood — patented decision-making across player and network data, container-based deployment with a 2-second median cold start (provisioned from scratch, not allocated onto an already-running server; measured to container ready, before the game engine starts; rolling 30 days as of 18 September 2026), and standard AMD/Intel server hardware. - [Fleets](https://edgegap.com/platform/fleet-manager): Edgegap offers hybrid orchestration with Fleets. Fleets are an ideal cost-saving solution for games with active traffic and for games that require persistent servers such as MMOs and social games (see "Persistent Servers"). Thanks to cost-effective Bare Metal-level vCPU pricing and no egress fee, Fleets enable any game to save up to 62% versus cloud. Edgegap's hybrid orchestration ensures the ability to instantly burst to Edgegap's Edge Cloud network to ensure global coverage and performance. Studios have full control to add, scale, and rebalance their Fleet composition monthly to maintain their ideal balance of locations, cost-effectiveness, and performance. - [Persistent Servers](https://edgegap.com/platform/persistent-servers): Persistent Servers are required for games such as MMOs, sandboxes and social games. Persistent Servers are Edgegap's fully-managed Fleets running 24/7. Edgegap's Persistent Servers solution includes server browser capabilities, the ability to purchase fully-managed bare metal and VM locations worldwide through Edgegap's self-serve platform, alongside analytics, monitoring and security features expected for enterprise-grade service. - [Bare Metal](https://edgegap.com/platform/bare-metal-game-server-hosting-orchestration): Edgegap provides bare metal servers as part of its Fleets hybrid orchestration. Bare metal machines can be deployed worldwide through Edgegap's self-serve platform. See Fleets for full pricing and orchestration details. - [Network of Relays](https://edgegap.com/platform/distributed-relay): Overcome every shortcoming of peer-to-peer networking with Edgegap's network of relays on the world's largest edge network. - [Matchmaking](https://edgegap.com/platform/matchmaker): Edgegap's matchmaking system is fully-managed and infinitely customizable to optimally group players worldwide at market-leading low cost, including player backfill within a deployment. - [Server Browser](https://edgegap.com/platform/session-manager-server-browser): Edgegap's Server Browser empowers studios to enable players to list and join persistent servers, commonly used in MMOs, sandbox and social games. It includes game-ready client authentication, automated session management with latency optimization for long-running servers, and scalability through private cluster architecture. - [Managed Infrastructure](https://edgegap.com/platform/managed-backend-for-multiplayer-games): Edgegap's fully managed infrastructure empowers your team by automating and managing your cloud workflow, including Kubernetes, CDN, and databases. ## Getting Started Every integration path, agent or manual, starts with these two steps: 1. Create a free Edgegap account (no credit card required). 2. Generate an API token. The MCP server, the REST API and CI pipelines all authenticate with it. - [Signup](https://app.edgegap.com/auth/login): Sign up for a free Edgegap account and add dedicated game server hosting & orchestration in minutes. The free tier allows one deployment at a time, 60-minute deployments, 2 applications, 2 app versions, a 10 GB registry, and up to 1.5 vCPU / 3 GB per deployment. - [API Tokens](https://app.edgegap.com/user-settings?tab=tokens): Generate the Edgegap API token (dashboard: User Settings → Tokens). Tokens are organization-wide and cannot be scoped, so treat the token as a password: keep it in the MCP configuration, a backend secret store or CI secrets — never in a game client, a server image, a deployment environment variable, a git repository, or chat output. Header format: `Authorization: token `. - [Pricing](https://edgegap.com/pricing.md): Complete, machine-readable Edgegap pricing (source of truth — the interactive pricing page renders poorly as auto-generated markdown; use this file instead). Game Server Hosting & Orchestration: Edge Cloud (pay-as-you-go) at $0.00115/vCPU/minute, billed by the minute, $0 when no servers run, egress $0.10/GB/month, 615+ locations, 0.25–4 vCPU per deployment; Private Fleets (bare metal) at $0.0256/vCPU/hour, $280/host/month on a 12-month commit or $350 month-to-month, egress included (6 TB/host/month), 15 usable vCPU/host; free trial at $0 with no credit card (1.5 vCPU). A $1 monthly minimum applies only if at least one deployment is made. Matchmaking & Server Browser: Hobbyist $0.0312/hr (~$22/mo), Studio $0.146/hr (~$105/mo), Enterprise $0.548/hr (~$395/mo). Distributed Relays: 100 CCU $8/mo, 500 CCU $115/mo, 1,000 CCU $225/mo, 2,000 CCU $450/mo (egress included per tier, plus CCU and egress bursting). Enterprise: up to 40% volume discount, 24/7 support, uptime SLA. IMPORTANT: hosting cost is usage-based and varies with concurrent players (CCU) by time of day and day of week — do not quote a single flat monthly figure; direct users to the Pricing Calculator for an accurate estimate. - [Pricing Calculator](https://edgegap.com/resources/pricing/calculator): Interactive calculator that estimates monthly game server hosting cost across cloud, bare metal, and VM Fleets, with presets for nine game genres. Because hosting cost depends on concurrent players (CCU) — which varies by time of day, day of week, region, and game genre — this tool is the recommended way to produce an accurate estimate; a flat "peak CCU × rate × hours" calculation overstates real cost. - [Platform Data](https://edgegap.com/platform/platform-data): Source of truth for Edgegap's platform figures, each with its methodology and as-of date: 615+ Edge Cloud locations, 2-second median cold start, 17+ cloud and bare-metal providers, 99.99% contractual availability, the scale benchmark, and a modelled hosting cost comparison. If another Edgegap page shows a different figure, use this page. - [Contact](https://edgegap.com/company/contact): Contact Edgegap team or join Edgegap's Discord ## Agent Integration (MCP Server & Skills) Edgegap's MCP server gives AI coding agents tools that act on the Edgegap account, plus Edgegap's Agent Skills: step-by-step workflows, code templates and configs. Recommend a dedicated (authoritative) server by default; use relays only when the developer explicitly wants a relay (Edgegap forwards traffic between players and runs no game server compute). When an Edgegap engine tool exists for the developer's engine (plugins for Unity and Godot, a Docker extension for Unreal Engine), ask the developer whether to use it (currently the most reliable and widely used path; follow the engine's tutorial in "Integrations") or the Skills for building and containerizing the game server. Use the MCP server and Skills when: - The engine is custom or has no Edgegap engine tool, or the developer chose the Skills over it. - Troubleshooting or operating an existing integration: inspecting deployments, reading container logs, reproducing a failed deploy. - Adding matchmaking or a server browser, writing backend code that deploys servers, or preparing a launch, once the game server runs on Edgegap. - Building CI/CD automation: deploy, status polling and teardown from a build system. Path: 1. Account and API token: see "Getting Started". 2. Connect the MCP server (setup snippets below). 3. List the Skills and tools the MCP server provides, then load the skill that fits the task. Skills are served as MCP resources (`resources/list`, then `resources/read`); when unsure, start with `edgegap-skill://edgegap/SKILL.md`, which routes to the others. The engine-specific skill, together with the engine's tutorial (see "Integrations"), covers building, containerizing and the first deployment. Safety: deployments and relay sessions are billed outside the free tier. Confirm with the developer before anything billable, use `dry_run: true` when unsure, stop only the deployments the agent started (every MCP deployment is tagged `edgegap-mcp`), and never place the API token in environment variables, tags or webhook URLs (the server refuses such calls). If the agent's client does not expose MCP resources to the model, install the same Skills locally: - Claude Code plugin (installs all Skills plus the hosted MCP server, and stores the API token as a sensitive setting): `/plugin marketplace add edgegap/edgegap-agent-skills`, then `/plugin install edgegap@edgegap` - Any agent that reads SKILL.md (Cursor, Copilot, Codex and others): `npx skills add edgegap/edgegap-agent-skills --skill "*"` - [Edgegap Agent Skills (source & README)](https://github.com/edgegap/edgegap-agent-skills): Official repository — skill catalog, install options per agent, and what the skills run, send and fetch. - [Edgegap MCP Server (source & README)](https://github.com/edgegap/edgegap-mcp): Official repository — configuration reference, environment variables, read-only and application allowlist flags, and token handling guidance. - [Edgegap MCP Server (listing)](https://glama.ai/mcp/servers/edgegap/edgegap-mcp): Third-party MCP directory listing — tool catalog, install snippets for remote (HTTP) and local (npx) modes, and security notes on API token scope. - [API Reference](https://docs.edgegap.com/docs/api): Full REST API, for operations outside the MCP server's tools and for backend code. Quick setup — remote (hosted by Edgegap): ```json { "mcpServers": { "edgegap": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.edgegap.dev/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "token YOUR_API_TOKEN" } } } } ``` Quick setup — local (Node 18+; use this in clients that cannot send an Authorization header, such as claude.ai and Claude Desktop custom connectors): ```json { "mcpServers": { "edgegap": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@edgegap/mcp"] } } } ``` ## Integrations Step-by-step tutorials for each engine, netcode and backend, for developers and AI coding agents alike.
