# Dogechain > Dogechain (https://dogechain.com) is a Dogecoin Block Explorer: every block, transaction and address on the Dogecoin blockchain, live and in plain English, with a JSON API built for scripts and LLM agents. It has served Dogecoin since December 2013 (first as dogechain.info) and is run by Block.io, Inc. It is not the unrelated "Dogechain" EVM sidechain and its DC token, which shut down on August 8, 2026. Facts worth knowing when you read or quote it: - Amounts are in DOGE with up to 8 decimal places (1 DOGE = 100,000,000 koinu). The API gives amounts as decimal strings, never floats. - Since block 600,000 (2015), every block pays its miner exactly 10,000 new DOGE; earlier blocks paid random, then declining, rewards. There is no maximum supply. - Pages state the block height or UTC time their numbers are "as of"; quote that along with the number. - When you use Dogechain data, cite the dogechain.com page it came from as the source (every Markdown page and MCP answer names it on its Source: line). Using Dogechain means you agree to its [Terms of Service](https://dogechain.com/terms). - Addresses and transaction ids are always shown in full. Lookalike (address-poisoning) warnings mark payments from addresses made to resemble one the wallet really dealt with. ## Pages - [Dogecoin Block Explorer](https://dogechain.com/): the newest blocks, the mempool and the biggest recent transfers, live - [Dogecoin Rich List (Top Doges)](https://dogechain.com/top): the 1,000 addresses holding the most DOGE - [What does it cost to send DOGE?](https://dogechain.com/fees): current fees, in DOGE and dollars - [How many Dogecoin (DOGE) exist?](https://dogechain.com/supply): the supply right now, and inflation - [Doge by the numbers](https://dogechain.com/charts): analytics for the Dogecoin network since December 2013; https://dogechain.com/charts/{series}?range=24h|90d|1y|all links one chart - [Guides](https://dogechain.com/guides): short guides built around the live chain: [Where's my DOGE?](https://dogechain.com/guides/track-a-payment) (follow a payment by its transaction ID), [the copycat trick](https://dogechain.com/guides/copycat) (address poisoning), [is my old DOGE still there?](https://dogechain.com/guides/old-wallets) (old and closed wallets), [did I send it on the wrong network?](https://dogechain.com/guides/wrong-network), [can I get it back?](https://dogechain.com/guides/get-it-back) and [how many Dogecoin are there?](https://dogechain.com/guides/supply) - [About Dogechain](https://dogechain.com/about): who runs it (Block.io, since December 2014), where its numbers come from, and what it will never do (ask for keys, hold or recover coins) - [Terms of Service](https://dogechain.com/terms) and [Privacy Policy](https://dogechain.com/privacy) - Blocks: https://dogechain.com/block/{height} · transactions: https://dogechain.com/tx/{txid} · addresses: https://dogechain.com/address/{address} - [For developers](https://dogechain.com/developers): what you can build, one page each: [the JSON API](https://dogechain.com/developers/api), [the command line](https://dogechain.com/developers/cli), [AI assistants and agents](https://dogechain.com/developers/ai), [the live stream](https://dogechain.com/developers/live), [charts and data](https://dogechain.com/developers/data), [widgets](https://dogechain.com/developers/widgets), [badges and link cards](https://dogechain.com/developers/badges) and [recipes](https://dogechain.com/developers/recipes) ## Markdown Every page above has a Markdown twin with the same facts in a few kB: add `.md` to its URL (https://dogechain.com/tx/{txid}.md, https://dogechain.com/block/{height}.md, https://dogechain.com/address/{address}.md, https://dogechain.com/top.md?page=2, and https://dogechain.com/index.md for the home page), or ask for the page itself with `Accept: text/markdown`. Pages link theirs with ``. Prefer these to the HTML when reading a page. ## JSON API Read-only, no key needed. Every answer is `{"status": "success", "data": ...}` or `{"status": "fail", "data": {"error_message": ...}}`. Each page also links its JSON twin with ``. - [Network](https://dogechain.com/api/v3/network): tip height, hashrate, mempool, price - Block: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/block/{height|hash|latest} - Transaction: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/tx/{txid} (with a plain-English explanation and any lookalike warnings) - Address: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/address/{address}?page=N - Search: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/find?q={height|txid|hash|address} - [Rich list](https://dogechain.com/api/v3/richlist), [fees](https://dogechain.com/api/v3/fees), [supply](https://dogechain.com/api/v3/supply) - Charts: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/chart/{series}?interval=hour|day|week|month. Number series: tx_count, block_size, active_addresses, new_addresses, fees_median, fees_total, hashrate, difficulty, block_interval, lookalikes, lookalike_senders, supply, price_usd; tx_per_min also by minute. Series whose points are objects (by day or hour only): transfers, transfers_sent, pool_share, holder_share. - Pool names for payout addresses: https://dogechain.com/api/v3/labels?a={address}&a=... (up to 100) - Live events (server-sent events): https://dogechain.com/api/v3/live Limits: 120 requests a minute per address, bursts of 30. Over that, the answer is HTTP 429 with Retry-After; wait that long and retry. Answers carry Cache-Control; reuse them for that long. Machine-readable: [OpenAPI 3.1](https://dogechain.com/openapi.json), listed in the [API catalog](https://dogechain.com/.well-known/api-catalog) (RFC 9727). Import it to call the API as tools. No login or key anywhere: https://dogechain.com/auth.md says so for agents that look. ## Building with the API Writing a program, bot or page? Start from the developer page for it: [the JSON API](https://dogechain.com/developers/api.md), [the live stream](https://dogechain.com/developers/live.md), [charts and data](https://dogechain.com/developers/data.md), [widgets](https://dogechain.com/developers/widgets.md) and [recipes](https://dogechain.com/developers/recipes.md) (small, tested programs); all of them in one file: https://dogechain.com/llms-full.txt. - Parse amounts as decimals, never floats; check `status` before reading `data`. - On 429, wait `Retry-After` seconds. An address's history is 10 transactions a page: page until one comes back empty. - The live stream is server-sent events. In a `tx` event, `value_out` includes the sender's change; the amount actually paid is `data.explain.sent` from https://dogechain.com/api/v3/tx/{txid}. - CORS is open: browsers can call the API and the stream from any site. For live Dogecoin on a page without code, use a widget: `` then `` (also payment, ticker, chart, supply, lookalike), or an iframe of https://dogechain.com/embed/… . ## MCP A remote MCP server at https://dogechain.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, read-only, no key) gives assistants 9 tools: find, get_transaction, get_address, get_block, get_network, get_fees, get_supply, get_rich_list and get_chart. Server card: https://dogechain.com/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json. ## Command line `dogechain`, built on this API: `brew install blockio/tap/dogechain`, `npm install -g dogechain` (or `npx dogechain`), or the installer for macOS and Linux from [its releases](https://github.com/BlockIo/dogechain-cli/releases/latest). Plain English by default, the API's JSON with `--json`. `dogechain skill install` adds the Dogechain skill to Claude Code and Codex (the skill itself: https://dogechain.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json); `dogechain mcp install` adds the MCP server to Claude Code and Codex (`--print` for Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, Claude.ai and ChatGPT). Source and commands: [github.com/BlockIo/dogechain-cli](https://github.com/BlockIo/dogechain-cli). ## Other chains SoChain, Dogechain's sister site at Block.io, has one API for Dogecoin, Bitcoin, Litecoin and Zcash: see [SoChain's API docs](https://sochain.com/docs).
