She inspired me to flow along the slope of my deepest inclination, moving around the boulders that life keeps throwing in my path.  - [Krishna Kavi](https://devraiartvillage.com/krishna-kavi/): In exploring Krishna shringara we must enter the mind of the Krishna kavi, not the modern or the contemporary kavi, not the mind of the kavi that is driven by historic factors and social realities, but the pristine ancient mind that is characterised by dhyana or inward contemplation, a mind that functions with the third eye, a mind that celebrates shringara. That mind of the ancient kavi, which while affirming rationality, takes pride in entering arational spaces of the mind, even while accepting modernity it does not dismiss ancient ideas, even while accepting history as what defines the human condition, it celebrates myth as an alternate source of knowledge, and above all while taking its stand on art history, moves beyond it to aesthetic experience, and seeks for itself poetic truth as the final resting place. That is the home of shringara. Krishna shringara arose from those supra-rational spaces of the poet's mind, and it is there that it must rest in the mind of the rasika who participates in Krishna shringara. The poet's mind roams in the vast and beautiful spaces above buddhi, it does not need historical verification or chronological veracity of shringara. It is a mind that seeks moments of beauty and converts it into vistas of eternity, it transforms limited space into infinity, and converts the particular to the universal, while creating poetry of Krishna shringara. - [The Creation of Devrai](https://devraiartvillage.com/the-creation-of-devrai/): For many years even before we shifted to Panchgani in 1997, I have lived with the word ‘Devrai’ rumbling inside my head. So what does it mean? All over our sub-continent, there are tiny pockets of forest that have been protected by local people due to the presence of a village deity. Over hundreds of years these have grown into tiny islands of rich bio-diversity supporting countless species of flora and fauna. In Maharashtra, these sacred groves are called Devrais. Living in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, I often dreamt of a home deep inside a Devrai – away from everything, in the lap of Mother Nature herself. At a sub-conscious level, this was perhaps a key driver for our shift to Panchgani. - [Evolving Traditional Art – From Dhokra to Rock Dhokra](https://devraiartvillage.com/evolving-traditional-art-from-dhokra-to-rock-dhokra/): The word “tradition” evokes continuity with the past, and often exact replication is seen as the criteria for evaluation, for upholding the tradition. At Devrai Art Village, the ancient technique of Dhokra metal casting was not merely preserved, but reimagined. Ours is a living civilization, not frozen in time in a museum. At Devrai, we are evolving our traditional art, both technically and thematically. ## Pages - [html_Sitemap](https://devraiartvillage.com/html_sitemap/): Shop - [Return, Refund & Damaged Delivery Policy](https://devraiartvillage.com/return-refund-damaged-delivery-policy/): At Devrai Art Village, every artwork is handcrafted with care, making each piece unique. Due to the artistic, handcrafted and often one-of-a-kind nature of our products, we have a strict no-return and no-refund policy once an order has been confirmed and dispatched. - [Request a Quote](https://devraiartvillage.com/request-a-quote/): Your quote is currently empty. - [Tumba Craft](https://devraiartvillage.com/tumba-craft/): There has been a metamorphosis in the traditional dried gourd craft at Devrai. We have lamps with different design patterns such as Mandala art, nature inspired motifs, stories and myths etched on the surface. Tumba has been put to many other uses as well – we have flower vases, the bigger ones have even turned into wine and beer casks with taps! Draped in fabric, Tumbas have even been turned into puppets. As lamps, they tell stories in mesmerising patterns of light and shadow, but as puppets, they transport us into a different world altogether. The patterns are etched onto the Tumba with red-hot iron tools, requiring immense hand control and precision at each step. - [Wood Art](https://devraiartvillage.com/wood-art/): The most recent addition to our repertoire is wood art, often combined with other materials and techniques to create unique mixed-media artworks. We have tried to replicate traditional design in wood - like carving a chain from a single block of wood - by adding our own motifs and designs. Most recently, driftwood has sparked us with fresh inspiration for a new series of art pieces, in which the natural shape and texture of the wood inspires the story that the sculpture is trying to convey. - [Organic Casting](https://devraiartvillage.com/organic-casting/): Nature not only inspires us, it often becomes the very substance of our design ideas. We have discovered how to replicate the patterns and textures in nature - which no human hand can sculpt - by directly casting them in metal. Thus leaves and grass, branches and bark, fruits and seeds or even seashells get transformed into metal. - [Enamel Art](https://devraiartvillage.com/enamel-art/): Enamel Paintings are the newest addition to Devrai's experiments in metal art. Enamelling is the process of fusing powdered glass (or enamel) of various colours with metal (usually copper, silver or gold) by firing. Enamel Art, which is usually used in jewellery or ornamental artefacts, finds a new life at Devrai in the form of paintings. These paintings often require multiple firings, with various layers of enamel done on top of each other to get the correct depth and colours in a painting. - [Checkout](https://devraiartvillage.com/checkout/) - [Molten Metal Paintings](https://devraiartvillage.com/molten-metal-paintings/): The metal mural range is made using the molten brass poured on the ground to form abstract shapes. It is often a combination of these abstract shapes with some hand-crafted ones as an integral part of a painting on canvas. It has now evolved into a unique artform, a combination of metal and paint, of 3D sculptures and 2D paintings, allowing our imagination to run wild and visualise worlds that merge the real and the abstract. - [Beaten Metal Craft](https://devraiartvillage.com/beaten-metal-craft/): Taking inspiration from the traditional iron craft of Bastar, the iron craft here evolves into many new avatars! Its combination with other mediums such as wood, stone, as part of a painting on canvas, or even infusion with metals such as brass and copper, each piece of iron craft at Devrai reflects the coming together of imagination, inspiration and the skilled hand of an age-old tradition. - [Fusion Dhokra](https://devraiartvillage.com/fusion-dhokra/): Our path-breaking innovation of Rock Dhokra (patented) has set us on a trail of new fusion adventures of metal with other mediums such as terra cotta, ceramic, glass and even other metals. Typically brass patterns and other embellishments are fused on a basic core of another medium as an integral part of the design idea. - [Atul Mathur](https://devraiartvillage.com/atul-mathur/): Atul, the co-founder of Devrai Art Village, is a chartered accountant withover 20 years’ experience in consulting, software and advertising, plusover 28 years’ experience in coaching and in developing leaders, teamsand organizations. He left Mumbai and the corporate world in 1997 as CEO of two of GreyAdvertising India’s divisions, to settle down in Panchgani from where henow operates. The use of sculpted stone has given a new dimension to our Rock Dhokra creations.  - [About Us](https://devraiartvillage.com/about-us/): The grand narrative of a nation is best perceived through its cultural and artistic expression.
