# Conversation Starter > Conversation Starter is a browser-based event matchmaking and networking platform, built in Belgium, that plans relevant 1:1 meetings between participants at conferences, community events, incubator programmes, job fairs and corporate events. It has planned over 275,000 meetings for organisers in more than 60 countries. Participants create a networking profile with event-specific icebreaker questions (such as requests and offers), an AI-powered recommendation engine ranks the most relevant people to meet, participants invite each other, and a smart planner automatically picks a time slot and numbered meeting point for every meeting. Reminders go out by SMS, so meetings actually happen. No app download is needed: participants receive a text with a link and join in their browser on desktop or mobile. The platform works for in-person, online and hybrid events, from a few hours of networking to multi-day conferences. Pure matchmaking events (investor/startup, buyer/supplier, recruitment) work from about 50 participants; broader events are recommended from 100 participants. It scales to 5,000 participants. Beyond networking it can host the full programme: speaker schedules, workshop sign-ups with capacity limits, exhibitor pages with meetings at the booth, sponsor placements, and ticketing sync with platforms such as Eventbrite, Ti.to, Weezevent, Ticket Tailor, EntryTickets, IDLoom and PassPass. Every event comes with a dedicated success manager who configures the setup and communication with the organiser. The interface is available in English, Dutch, French and German, with other languages added on request. Events can be password-protected or guestlist-only and are not indexed by search engines. Conversation Starter is GDPR-compliant and privacy-first: participants control their own data, and organisers can request a full export followed by permanent deletion after the event. Customers include imec.istart, Techstars, StartupAmsterdam, Start it @KBC, SetSquared, Voka, Agoria, EIC Scaling Club, BelCham, EIT, Deloitte, Puratos, Servier, EY, Accor Hotels, KU Leuven, Ghent University, TEDxUHasselt, the City of Antwerp and the European Commission.
