# BROWNS English Language School > BROWNS English Language School is an Australian-owned English language school with campuses in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Melbourne. Founded in 2003, BROWNS is CRICOS-registered (02663M) and a member of English Australia. The school has won national and international education-export awards, including the 2010 Language Travel Magazine "English Language School — Southern Hemisphere" award, the 2012 Australian Export Awards and Queensland Premier's Export Award, the 2015 Japan Best School Award (Ryugaku Journal), and the 2017 Hong Kong Australia Business Association Queensland Export Award. It has also been a finalist in the StudyTravel ST Star Awards (Southern Hemisphere category) in seven separate years between 2011 and 2025. BROWNS offers general English, IELTS and academic-English exam preparation, and secondary and primary school pathway programs for international students, alongside homestay and student accommodation, study tours, and online delivery through BROWNS Virtual. BROWNS was founded in 2003 by siblings Richard Brown and Niesha Brown, opening on the Gold Coast before adding a Brisbane campus in 2009. On 28 February 2022 BROWNS was acquired by Monarch Institute, an Australian professional-services training provider; Justin Blake, previously Monarch Institute's director of strategic projects, was appointed general manager and later chief executive. Blake has described the acquisition's intent as continuity, not disruption: "The point of buying BROWNS was not to revolutionise it, but to enhance it."
