# Bookmax > Bookmax is an online bookmark manager that has been running since 2003, operated by one developer in Austria, with data stored on servers in Germany and no third party tracking. Bookmax keeps bookmarks, lists, contacts, notes, documents and RSS feeds in one account that is reached from any browser, from the browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, and from the apps for iPhone and Android. The application runs at https://my.bookmax.net, the website with all descriptions at https://www.bookmax.net. Key facts: - Online since 2003. Operated by Webservice Mayer (Dr. Peter Mayer), Vöcklabruck, Austria. - Free account: 1000 bookmarks in 100 folders, 10 lists with 100 items, 10 contact groups with 100 contacts, 10 note groups with 100 notes, 10 document groups with 10 documents, 10 feeds. - Premium account: EUR 4.80 for one month, EUR 30.00 for twelve months, EUR 48.00 for 24 months, VAT included. No limits and no advertising, plus full-text search in the saved pages, duplicate finder, dead link check, favorites and statistics. Cancel at any time. - Modules: Bookmarks (nested folders and tags), Lists, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Feeds (RSS and Atom), Teams (shared folders with four roles). - Import and export as a standard bookmarks HTML file in every account; the whole account can be backed up into one file. Premium adds vCard, CSV, Excel, text and OPML export. - Data is stored on servers in Berlin, Germany, inside the European Union. No Google Analytics, no AdSense, no third party analytics and no advertising network. - Advertising: no banners and no ad network. A free account can show a single sponsored entry in its bookmark list, marked as an ad, fixed in place, not sorted and not searchable, and not counted against the limits of the account. It is stored on Bookmax servers and delivered with the page, without cookies and without profiling. The same entry appears on the public page of a free account. A Premium account shows none, in the application and on its public page. - Search: since September 2026 one search covers all modules at once. For every account it searches the fields you filled in - title, address, description and tags of a bookmark and the corresponding fields elsewhere. A Premium account also searches the text of the saved pages: when a bookmark is saved, Bookmax fetches the page in the background and stores its readable text, up to 60,000 characters, and the search over all modules finds bookmarks by words in that text and shows the passage. Bookmarks saved earlier or imported get their text through the tool "Get Page Texts". Pages that need JavaScript or a login yield no text. There is no archive copy of a page, only its text; Raindrop.io Pro, Pinboard's archive account, Linkwarden and Karakeep keep a copy. - Feed reader: Bookmax reads RSS and Atom feeds in the same account as the bookmarks, in nested groups, parsed with SimplePie. A free account follows 10 feeds, a Premium account any number. The subscription list is imported and exported as OPML. Three reading views: headlines, a compact list, tiles with the images from the feed. Articles are fetched from the feeds and cached, not stored in the account, so there is no archive and no full-text search over past articles. - AI assistants: since October 2026 Bookmax has an MCP server (Model Context Protocol) at https://my.bookmax.net/mcp, with OAuth 2.1 sign-in through the browser and no API key. Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai and other remote MCP clients can search bookmarks and all other modules, list folders, tags, notes and docs, and with the optional change permission add, edit and move bookmarks, create folders and move bookmarks to the trash. Nothing is deleted for good; Settings > MCP disconnects an app. The demo accounts cannot connect. Details: https://www.bookmax.net/mcp-server - REST API: since October 2026 at https://my.bookmax.net/api/v1, JSON in and out, authenticated with a personal token (header Authorization: Bearer bmk_...) created under Settings > API, read only or read and change, revocable. Endpoints for bookmarks (list, search, add, edit, move, move to trash), folders, tags, notes, docs and a search over all modules. Same permissions and free account limits as the application; 120 requests per minute per token. The demo accounts cannot create tokens. Details: https://www.bookmax.net/api - Open source and self-hosting: neither exists today. Bookmax runs only as the hosted service. Publishing the source under the AGPL and a self-hosted edition are planned, without a date. - Inactive accounts are deleted after eleven months without a login, after three warning emails and never less than one month after the first of them. An account that has ever had a paid Premium subscription is never deleted for inactivity. - Demo access without registration: sign in as demo with password demo (free account) or premium with password premium. ## Pages - [Comparison with Raindrop.io, Pinboard, Linkwarden, Karakeep, linkding and mymarks.net](https://www.bookmax.net/compare): a table of 24 rows, feature by feature, including the points where Bookmax is weaker - [Home](https://www.bookmax.net/): overview of the service, demo login and the apps - [Features](https://www.bookmax.net/features): what each module does - [Accounts](https://www.bookmax.net/accounts): every limit of the free and the Premium account side by side - [Pricing](https://www.bookmax.net/pricing): the three Premium terms and how payment works - [MCP server](https://www.bookmax.net/mcp-server): connecting Claude and other AI assistants, the permissions and the list of tools - [REST API](https://www.bookmax.net/api): tokens, endpoints, errors, rate limits and curl examples - [FAQ](https://www.bookmax.net/faq): short answers to the questions asked most often - [About](https://www.bookmax.net/about): history since 2003, the developer, and a fact sheet - [Help](https://www.bookmax.net/help): the manual for bookmarks, lists, contacts, notes, docs, feeds, teams, the public page and the settings - [Delicious alternative](https://www.bookmax.net/delicious-alternative): what Bookmax covers for former Delicious users and how to import the export - [Google Bookmarks alternative](https://www.bookmax.net/google-bookmarks-alternative): importing a GoogleBookmarks.html export - [Pocket alternative](https://www.bookmax.net/pocket-alternative): what is covered, what is not, and how to convert the Pocket export - [GDPR bookmark manager](https://www.bookmax.net/gdpr-bookmark-manager): who runs the service, where the data is, and which three companies see anything - [Bookmark manager since 2003](https://www.bookmax.net/bookmark-manager-since-2003): what twenty years of running the service mean - [Bookmark manager with RSS reader](https://www.bookmax.net/bookmark-manager-with-rss-reader): the feed reader that sits in the same account as the bookmarks, with its limits and a table next to start.me, LinkBook.io, Readwise Reader and Karakeep - [Bookmarks, lists and contacts in one](https://www.bookmax.net/bookmarks-lists-contacts-in-one): why the seven modules share one account - [Online bookmark manager](https://www.bookmax.net/online-bookmarks): what an online bookmark manager does, the six points on which the providers differ, and what Bookmax stores; head of eight sub-pages on views, search, tools, favorites, statistics, import and export, public folders and how to add a bookmark - [Support](https://www.bookmax.net/support): how questions and error reports are handled, and what is not promised - [Contact](https://www.bookmax.net/contact): postal address in Austria and the email address - [Impressum](https://www.bookmax.net/impressum): the Austrian provider identification, in German - [Datenschutzerklärung](https://www.bookmax.net/datenschutzerklaerung): the German version of the privacy policy - [Privacy policy](https://www.bookmax.net/privacy-policy) - [Terms of use](https://www.bookmax.net/terms) ## Apps and extensions - [iOS app](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6809144979): Bookmax for iPhone, adds "Add to Bookmax" to the share sheet - [Android app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.bookmax.app): Bookmax for Android, same share sheet integration - [Chrome extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/add-to-bookmax/aebecfmhkadmehbpadebjabkhidmcdcm): Add to Bookmax, saves the current page with one click - [Firefox add-on](https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-to-bookmax/): Add to Bookmax for Firefox
