# Aviationstack
> Aviationstack is a real-time flight tracker and global aviation data REST API, trusted by 5,000+ companies. It delivers live flight status with 30–60 second update delays, historical flights, future flight schedules, airport timetables, and lookup data for airline routes, airports, airlines, airplanes, aircraft types, cities, countries, and aviation taxes. The dataset spans 10,000+ airports, 13,000+ airlines, 19,000+ aircraft registrations, 300+ aircraft types, 9,000+ cities, 250+ countries, and 500+ aviation tax zones. Responses are lightweight JSON (with JSONP callback and CORS support), served over scalable cloud infrastructure that handles anywhere from thousands of requests per month to millions per minute. Aviationstack is part of the APILayer suite (one account, one API key, one dashboard across the APILayer product family).
A free API key is available at https://aviationstack.com/signup/free — 100 requests per month, no credit card required; paid plans start at $49.99/month and unlock features such as historical flight data and airline routes. A single lookup is one HTTP GET request: api.aviationstack.com/v1/flights?access_key=YOUR_KEY. Core endpoints include Flights (real-time and historical, filterable by flight_iata, dep_iata, arr_iata, airline_name, flight_date), Routes, Airports, Airlines, Airplanes, Aircraft Types, Cities, Countries, Taxes, and airport timetable/flight schedule endpoints. Code examples are provided for PHP, Python, Node.js, and Ruby.
